Good post.Probably swimming against the tide here, but can I make a plea to not just ignore posters?
Ds need to do some soul searching because the message just isn't getting across. Like it or not, the country is just not what we want it to be and no amount of ignorance will make it so. It would behoove us to listen. That doesn't mean agree. It doesn't mean change. It doesn't mean like. It just means listen. Fight the urge to "correct" or argue and just try to understand at core what is motivating them.
Yes, there are many that will be trolling and looking for a reaction. A super ignore is exactly that reaction - oh look at the snowflake libs that can't handle anything that doesn't fit their worldview! Don't give it to them. You don't have to click on their thread. And if you do, you don't have to reply. And if you are going to ignore someone, you don't have to announce it to try to antagonize them.
We are not going to better understand each other by ignoring each other. And you shouldn't expect Rs to listen to you if you won't listen to Rs. It's tough work. Sometimes it's REALLY tough work. I think a lot of Rs would be surprised and maybe even disarmed to actually have a liberal listen to them earnestly. Not argue or debate, but listen. You can't browbeat or insult people into agreeing with you.
Anyway, that's me coping in real time. Super ignore me if you like.
I don’t think the problem is a lack of understanding. Two sides have radically different values. We aren’t going to talk it out. The only reason we don’t all go our separate ways is that the logistics of that are impossible.
The best description of what is coming I’ve seen is that people on the other side of the divide will be treated like coworkers, not friends.
Was there a MAGA invasion on this forum? I have skimmed around but have not seen one. There are areas that we agree at a high level. But our leaders struggle to work ot the details. That's impossible when the president refuses to even acknowledge the other side.
No, there were two that I ignored because their first post made it clear there intentions. Was there a MAGA invasion on this forum? I have skimmed around but have not seen one.

I do same. This is a good way of looking at it.
I think this idea that individual democratic voters need to collectively do some drastic self reflection to better relate to republicans is absurd. Expecting democrats at scale to fundamentally change how they view republicans to better “evangelize” the message and get them to change their world view is arrogant and completely unrealistic. In the words of Mr. Pink, “fuck all that”.
While I understand the urge to just totally burn all bridges with Republicans, that’s also not realistic for most people. Thinking about my personal situation, I have plenty of people in my family and wider social circles that are republicans, and I imagine a lot of other people from NC are in the same boat. Very few people that I am actually close with on a personal level are though. When I do inevitably interact with republicans in a social setting or family gatherings, I just stick to small talk and avoid politics, or just play it off if they do bring it up. Really no skin off of my nose to just treat them like co workers and not make a big scene about it.
My FIL is really the only hardcore MAGA type that I’m close with. He’s a bit of an odd guy anyway and can be extremely grating to be around because he shoehorns Trump or politics into basically every conversation, but he is also my wife’s dad and they are still very close. We don’t live near him, so I’ve just resigned to sucking it up and doing my best to not engage his nonsensical political takes the handful of times per year that we see him. It’s really not some crazy sacrifice for me in the grand scheme of things.
I have 13 on SI and won’t hesitate to announce when I put someone on it.I have used super ignore three times today. This is the first time I have ever used it.
I agree that announcing to the person that you used that feature is childish and gives them the attention they crave.
As for better understanding of each other, I don’t ignore conservatives who come to have actual dialog. But you can’t have dialog with a troll. Trying to do so is not only pointless but often derails threads which is unfair to others on the board.
We can “soul-search” without dealing with trolling MAGA inbreds.Probably swimming against the tide here, but can I make a plea to not just ignore posters?

A lot of people are reading a lot into a suggestion to avoid just turning inward to what is comfortable and tuning out other voices. I wouldn't expect anyone to have a conversation with someone that shows up solely to rub their ass in your face, and I didn't suggest that. I just hoped people would pump the brakes before ignoring anyone and everyone that voted differently. Personally, I don't think Trump voters are a monolith. We can “soul-search” without dealing with trolling MAGA inbreds.
We’re perfectly capable of having those conversations amongst ourselves.
Super Ignore is an amazing feature. If it was available on the old board, it might still be up today.
MAGA is nothing but a swarm of locusts, literally destroying and deteriorating everything in their ignorant path. I have no inclination to have a conversation with these shitbags.
I have no conservatives on Super Ignore that haven’t already attempted to troll this board. The problem is that represents about 99% of the conservatives who have ever posted on this board.A lot of people are reading a lot into a suggestion to avoid just turning inward to what is comfortable and tuning out other voices. Again, just my opinion, but if you want to figure out how to draw voters away from Trump, I'm not sure listening exclusively to people already voting against Trump is going to provide much useful education.![]()
I get where you're coming from. We'll agree to disagree. And to be clear, I'm not suggesting Dems abandon their principles.I have no conservatives on Super Ignore that haven’t already attempted to troll this board. And I reject the notion that we can’t actually do some self-reflection as Democrats and discuss what went wrong without involving Trump supporters in the conversation. Nothing those shitbirds say regarding their vote for a 34 count felon, adjudicated rapist, and insurrectionist is going to make me think, “Gosh, that’s such a great point. Clearly I can learn from your suggestions to improve the Democratic Party!”
This assumes that MAGA posters here are open to discussion and persuasion. Why listen to a troll? As my son said today, the work dems need to do is not with Trump voters, but with registered voters who DID NOT VOTE. THOSE are the people we should be listening to. Hell, many of Trump's idiots complaining about the price of eggs are spending thousands of dollars on Trump watches, trains, sneakers, flags, bobbleheads, bibles, etc. Maybe if they refrained from buying that peddled shit, they could buy a god-damned egg.I get where you're coming from. We'll agree to disagree. And to be clear, I'm not suggesting Dems abandon their principles.
I think if there is any portion of Trump voters that, for example, held their nose and voted for him because they can't make ends meet with their paycheck anymore, it would be useful to Dems to understand that for policy and/or messaging purposes. Even if they're just dead wrong about who would be better for their wallet, it would be useful to know where the misconception is coming from so you can try to address it.
I'm open to the possibility that I'm being naive, so by all means go ahead and tell me you think I'm being naive. I just don't know how you persuade voters if you don't understand what is motivating them, and I don't know how you understand what is motivating them unless you listen to them.
Listen, fuck stain, that's a real easy stance for a bosiding twit to take. But I no longer have the time nor the patience to get into a back and forth with MAGA dipshits who just joined the board in the last two days to gloat. Those people aren't worth my time, because they aren't here for dialogue. If they were, they would have been posting on this board from the start.Ignore is for emotional crybabys who cant handle someone elses harmless opinion. Pathetic
