Stranger Things season 5 [now including SPOILERS]

I don't think Will will have full El powers, more that he can act within the hive mind to affect those connected to the hive mind (the Mind Flayer, Vecna, various democreatures).

I think it's an interesting development, as it gives the good guys a power duo to fight the Mind Flayer/Vecna team. I don't think that any one person will save th world, but that it'll be an "all hands on deck" operation where everyone has to do specific parts toward success (although El will almost certainly have the biggest role with now Will likely having a large role, as well).
I don't know if Will's powers are solely from his connection to Vecna or if he has had them all along but didn't realize it. Regardless, he destroyed the demogorgons just like Vecna killed his victims in season 4 so one way of any, he has access to those powers and it's a nice arc to Will's story to redeem all the crap he has suffer through.

Edited to add that thinking more about some of the lines from the last episode about him being a sorcerer with inate powers as well as his conversation with Robin implies that he has had these powers all along and just didn't realize it.

Also, I suspect the good guys will also have 008 on their team now.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but episode 7 is getting review-bombed. Apparently both the homophobes and the Byler (Mike & Will) shippers are angry and are giving the episode bad reviews. On IMDB, Ep 7 is now the lowest rated show of the entire series, even below The Lost Sister (which introduced Kali).

The internet has ruined fandom in so many ways.

That always happens on IMDb. The MAGA crowd hates anything Remotely associated to liberal thinking. The show is bad enough without throwing that crao into the equation.

i just watched it last night and thought that will's coming-out was a little overwrought but of course the bigots take everything to a different level of nastiness.

I think this season has some issues, but there are a lot of folks really losing their minds over it, especially Vol 2 that just came out.

I would have certainly done Will's coming out event(s) a bit differently, if I had been the one to write them, but I thought it was fine and made sense within the narrative story being told.
