It's not even so much a ripple effect, though. What's happening is exactly what broad tariffs are designed to do! It's just absurd anyone would think tariffs are good for small businesses or middle class workers. They never have been, and they certainly can't be now in our interdependent, highly automated world. There is no outcome here that is good for the country as a whole. For the robber barons who are propping Trump up, yes, absolutely. But most of MAGA is about to get crushed by a freight train of its own making.

Agree, but i believe the average maga is so ill informed that they never comprehend what could happen and how it would impact the overall supply chain and businesses in the US.

It really shouldn't be that hard to understand if something cost more at the start of the supply chain it will cost more for the other steps in the supply chain.

So many episodes of Shark Tank in the early seasons had entrepreneur saying he was manufacturing in the USA and wanted to continue to do that. The sharks would immediately say you really need to go overseas to lower costs.

If by that you mean intentionally misleading information, sure.

Here's a question: this German tax -- the $128! -- on the imports, what is it? It's not a tariff, because all tariffs are imposed at the EU level. But he said Germany specifically? So what tax is being applied? Do you even know? I do.

The whole setup is perfectly fair. American exports to Europe pay the same taxes as Europeans do (which is the relevant metric for competition), plus a set of tariffs on top that are tiny and mostly inconsequential. Not entirely inconsequential, but mostly. Trade barriers are quite simply not a significant limiting factor in American exports, which you would learn from talking to pretty much anyone with experience in the field.

Which is why this Donald Trump sycophant has to go on TV to complain about the unfairness of policies that have nothing to do with trade. Nothing.

You keep talking EU level, they don't have America's best interests
 
Of course they don't. Or, if I had a better editor, "Duh". The EU has the EU's best interests at heart. The point super is making is that the VAT in Germany applies universally to all imports (not just American) as well as products made in Germany.

Do you reasonably expect sovereign nations to modify their domestic tax structures according to American whims? Why would they do that?

Maybe you understand the regulatory structure of threading with the EU.

maybe you understand his Brexit impacted those also.

I mean this should all be common knowledge to one that can determine the fairness and impact of taxes and tariffs. Right?

He simply doesn't understand. But he wants to throw out a video of someone using the same bullshit talking points about millions of jobs. Then the guy talks about automation and having 7 engineers. Wow.

The automation will make more money for the C-suite guys than millions of new head count, so we know who will win that fight.

I didn't get to finish the video, does he explain where the demand is going to come from to generate the millions of new jobs? Are those jobs in steel or across all manufacturing, like screwing in little screws on iPhones?
