How about any truck drivers need to be able to interpret the big green signs along the highways even if they dont have pics?
Ah yes. Fluent English is required to interpret "right lane closed."

Here's the thing about you MAGAs: you're always saying that X or Y needs to be done because otherwise catastrophe. But you have no explanation for how we've managed to avoid that catastrophe for generations without doing your stupid MAGA things. Like Trump says that Canada doesn't work as a country, only as a state. Oh, really? So the last 125 years of it working as a country just didn't happen?

Same thing here: we've had immigrant truck drivers for generations. Somehow they've managed to do their jobs just fine up until now. Are you telling us that the accident rate for non-fluent English speakers is particularly high? Link?

Probably you don't know that there's so much automation in truck cabs these days that no driver has to interpret signs on his own. Not only does the computer system recognize it, but it literally will not let the driver ignore the sign's instructions (or at least makes it very difficult and perhaps costly to do so).

Hard to tell if he was just drunk or couldnt read (or just an illegal).

This Jim Crow logic fell out of favor long ago, along with names like Orval Faubus.

You're literally taking a stereotype drawn from isolated members of an ethnic group, and then applying that stereotype to others. And you wonder why people see wuffies as stupid and racist. That's about as racist as it gets.

No,that is your opinion. I dont see a problem with requiring those entering the US legally, obtaining a job that requires driving and following all our laws. I suppose you think signage should be in 10 different languages too.
Learn the language of the country you wish reside -it helps everyone.
16 times he was asked to leave !
"isolated "my arse
I bet he liked Budweiser though.
Eres más estúpido

The writing on road signs in this country is at about a 3rd grade comprehension level. Is this really a challenge?

Plus the vast majority of road signs are accompanied by visual signals, shape, color, pictures.

That's great and all, but it has nothing to do with what you said. This is what you wrote:

"Hard to tell if he was just drunk or couldnt read (or just an illegal)."

That is extremely racist. Fact. You are assuming that his ethnicity was the reason for the crash.

This poster's affection runs to NCSU. All bets are off, really.
I didn't have time to read the article, but when scrolling yesterday there was an article about the education system in the US. The premise was how do we fix an education system that has produced a national average of 3rd grade level reading. It must be a really broken system if the national average reading level is truly at a 3rd grade level.

You must have misinterpreted the article. The average American reads at a much higher level than 3rd grade. I mean, 40% of 18-24 year olds are enrolled in college, and according to this website, 60% of people go to college immediately after HS or GED.

I could have. I really meant to go back and read the full article.

Does this help?

  • Average Reading Level:
  • The Literacy Project reports that the average American reads at a 7th to 8th-grade level.
  • This means that most people can understand and use language at the level expected of students in the 7th and 8th grades.
  • Variability:
  • It's important to note that the average reading level can differ depending on a person's age and educational background.

Literacy Levels Among American Adults

  • Challenges Faced:
  • Over half of American adults (54%) read below a sixth-grade level.
  • Almost 1 in 5 adults reads below a third-grade level, showing significant gaps in reading ability.
  • Overall Literacy Rates:
  • 4 out of 5 adults in the US are considered literate.
  • However, more than 130 million adults have low literacy skills.

I remember reading in the ‘70’s that publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, and Time were written at an 8th grade level.

OK he is just an illegal that couldnt drive (we will see).
"Cruz-Mendoza was hauling metal pipes and angle iron at the time of the wreck, and overturned the truck while going at least 65 mph through a 45 mph zone."
I guess he couldnt read numbers
How about this one?
