Teamsters will withhold endorsement

Possibly. Some reports from a couple days ago still had Teamsters 60%-40% for Trump... but that may have changed in the latest polling. Our Yellowjacket friend from GaTech likes to claim its a big deal that the Teamsters "leader" didn't endorse Harris... but the FACT remains, they didn't endorse trump either! No "official" endorsement either way. But the ramblin wreck wants to troll the board... but as the days go by, we may just see - as you say - "the majority of Teamsters (by representation) have now endorsed Harris"

Eff the jacket... he's going on ignore sooner than later. Once the majority of the board puts him on ignore - or even super ignore - he'll be out like a light, never to be seen or heard from again
Don't be so tough on him. The world needs gadflies. It's true that it's difficult to tell if his ideas are malicious or stupid but they aren't very well reasoned. It still keeps the board from being an echo chamber. We don't need this to be the shoot out at the OK Corral but I don't want to paint the town beige, either. All of us have a right to our opinion and a place on the board.

Yeah. Again, the leaders control the political contributions and can set up some phone banks but it's the votes that matter. I think I would much rather have the rank and file and not the leadership then have the leadership and not the rank and file. If that's what's happening, it's a concern.

I wonder if, at this point, the lack of a national endorsement has backfired on the national teamsters' leadership.

If the national teamsters had endorsed Harris-Walz, i think most folks would have gone, "Yeah, that makes sense." and moved on about their day.

But the lack of a national endorsement has led to a wave of regional endorsements and has drawn more attention to teamster support of Harris-Walz than a simple national endorsement would have done.

Trump is not shy about being anti-union. I just don't understand this. Is it ignorance? Tribalism? Someone make it make sense please. I'm starting to think maybe Trump is correct when he says we are a nation in decline. This election shouldn't even be close. WTF.
Going back to 2016, when the single worst Presidential candidate in history beat Hillary, the Democratic party has had a public perception issue, which they have yet to resolve.

I do think that's partly it. Unions are making some of their biggest wins in decades but if you ask the average union member what Biden had to do with it, they would have trouble coming up with an answer. And Biden is absolutely a friend to the unions, but its hard to understand what his administration is doing because they aren't talking about it.

They need to be highlighting how they had the railroad workers' backs. How they are fighting against non-competes. And they need to be adding union initiatives to the platform instead of focusing on a housing promise that they will be unlikely to keep.

They’ve had a public perception problem for longer than that.

1850's at least.
But Politics are funny. Strange how you swap bedfellows over the centuries. Liberals/Progressives haven't had much luck in organizing anything of their own. They've simply had to stay active, but sit by all the same, and let the 2 parties fight it out to see which one gets to be the assholes.

Right now the Republicans - er.... 'scuse me.... the maga trumplicans get to be the assholes. The old school Pubs get to be cuckholds. The Dems get to call the progressives teammates. At least for this century.

I think we might be about to see another party system change. I have no idea how it will shake out of course, but I can’t help but feel that the party coalitions are currently in extremely fragile.

Just pointing out that the idea of essentially throwing good money after bad is an old concept and traditionally supported.

Well, there were some undertones but figured you'd either miss or ignore them.

Depends on post Trump maga. Does it stay? If so it's a mess. If the GOP reverts then longer before a shift

The national Teamsters may not be taking a stance, but local chapters are backing the Democratic ticket.

..............

The endorsements were issued as part of a joint endorsement of unions from Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

“The Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council 75 is proud to announce our endorsement of the Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ticket for President and Vice President of the United States,” reads a letter from the North Miami-based regional Teamsters affiliate.

The council said the Democratic candidates’ “strong record on workers’ rights and advocacy stands in clear contrast to that of the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.”

The chapter action followed a decision by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters not to endorse for President this year, citing a division in polling of its national membership.

................

“As the election draws near, we believe it is important to share our perspective on which candidate truly stands up for all workers, especially Union members,” the letter from Joint Council 75 reads. “The record is clear — whether it’s backing funding for Union members’ and retirees’ pensions, ensuring a strong, pro-worker, pro-union National Labor Board, or supporting the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act), the Harris-Walz ticket is the best choice for organized labor.”

The letter also calls out Project 2025, the controversial blueprint from conservative think tanks for the next Republican administration. That agenda, the letter said, “would be a disaster for all workers, particularly Union members.”
