The Charlie Kirk Thread

Well, I have not kept up with these discussions in detail, but I have some more thoughts.
Awhile ago I posed a thread that suggested that our nation's divide was less about ideology and more about knowledge. I think that even more today.
Many folks speak of Americans on opposite sides of a spectrum. And, in truth, many folks seem to perceive two competing teams, sort of like Ohio State vs Michigan. Those sorts of discussions imply some sort of ultimate parallel between the two "sides," allowing for a "plague on all your houses" response,
But I think that badly misses the point. We are a divided society but not of similar people.

This guy Charlie Kirk was pond scum. He lied frequently, and insofar as he supported core beliefs they were horrible. If the term "Christianity" means anything at all, he was not a Christian
I do not know why the guy who shot him did so, although it seems that he was from that murky side of that murky spectrum where folks are driven by hatred,

I do not know if CK was simply a con man, or whether he believed what he said. It does seem that he was perpetrating a huge fraud by claiming to lead a grass roots movement that was really funded by a few billionaires.

The aftermath of the shooting reveals a variety of things, all unpleasant.
  • The GOP leadership knows that their followers are stupid people Why treat this guy like a hero? Because these people really are that dumb.
  • Social media is now stacked with posts from celebrities, ostensibly saying precisely the same thing? Why? Because MAGA is really that stupid,
  • When it became clear that the shooter was not trans, or a POC, or an immigrant, or a Democrat, these morons insisted that he had been "radicalized" by higher education. This is the sort of thing that folks who are not educated might believe. (And, presumably people who know nothing about Utah or Utah State.)
  • These people do not know what the word "liberal" means, or "leftie,"
I have no idea what we as a society should do now. The enemy are people who are full of hatred and suspicion and ignorance, And before long many of them will have foreclosed farms, which they will blame on liberals.

This feels like a good time to be approaching death,

Lol, i thought it was the Universities that were failing the kids.

Maga parents are less educated and teach their kids that violence and get women, racism, lgtb hate, and xenophobia are good..and that leaders troll, not lead.

Kirk was young..MAGA embraced his and TPA’s games for votes sending him down this path which ironically, created his killer from another MAGA family.

MAGA failed both of these families…and Trump doesn’t even care, look at his ballroom! Those MAGA families will continue to MAGA.
1) That is a very ignorant comment because you are making such an overly generalized statement that you have zero knowledge of. Are you arguing that democrats raise better kids than republicans? I'm not sure what you are saying but the generalization is just nuts.
2) You have created this "trump doesn't care" fantasy from social media. By all accounts he was very close with the trump family and trump is attending his funeral. To say trump doesn't care because of his comments about the ballroom is just TDS. trump rambles about everything and can't stay focused on any topic more than a few comments when addressing the media.

That’s not what that means at all
It is. No matter what you say or how much you want to believe it. Democracy was NEVER threatened. To overthrow our democracy it would have taken military action and seizure of the g'ment by people who could have held it with full cooperation of the military. That was never, ever, remotely a possibility. It was then and is now fear mongering from your politicians and media that was totally effective because it convinced educated, but overly emotional people on the left that "our democracy is threatened" Sorry to tell you that you were played, again. If you would pause for some sane reflection, you would realize that the dude wearing the buffalo hat and 200 of his buddies couldn't overthrow the US g'ment. Apply some common sense and dial back the emotion.

Actually it could also mean that a segment of MAGAts were all in in the overthrow of the government that basis not elect who they wanted as leader…so they attacked the Capitol when not elected, did not when he was.

Is that pro democracy?

1) 2 examples are a generalization? Small sample size wasn’t an issue when you freaked out on Trans in sports or elected democratic leaders spewing hate speech.

2) MAGA households are statistically less likely to have college educated parents and are non-college educated children earn less and commit more crimes across the board. These are just two examples…yet MAGA says college ruins children

3) I have proof in Donald’s interview there that he didn’t care about charlie once the attacker was the left wing person he claimed…in the interview you just saw. Would you pivot to your living room if someone asked about your friend that just got murdered?

MAGA politicians all changed their tune when the real killer was exposed… why do you think? Same thing with the influencers…why do you think that is?

I think it’s too soon to really understand the character and the motivations of the suspect.

But based on what I’m seeing on X, the right-wing crowd is absolutely not giving up on the narrative of generally blaming left (maybe radicalized at college….the message in bullet casings echo Dem messaging…whatever). My guess is that they’ll protect that narrative with everything they’ve got, regardless of the truth. Again, I don’t not claim to have a very good grasp on what the truth of the situation is….

To be fair, arguments in favor of those things usually fail on their own.
Who is more qualified for their role?

A Justice Kentaji Brown Jackson

B Kash Patel

C Pete Hegseth

D Lisa Cook

Order 1-4

It’s tough at the top for me, but I’d go with

1. Jackson
2. Cook (close second)
3. Patel (not qualified)
4. Hegseth (not close to being qualified)

Look I know she's grieving, but wtf is that dumb Stepford wife clone talking about?

Sweetheart, your husband wasn't that important. He was a loudmouth You Tuber with an audience of incel teens. Just be happy his grift operation of the unwashed masses banked you enough money to live comfortably the rest of your life. Don't try to act like he was important enough to rally a movement.

She was pretty delusional, ignored the hate, and turned up the rhetoric…while ignoring the reality of her late husband’s speech.

I understand that it’s a tough moment, but if she’s not ready for it, she should not be speaking.

Corretta Scott King was hurting and has problem with society…but she did not turn up the rhetoric.

Some interesting observations here:

Not saying I buy all of it but gives me some things to consider. Reminds me of a Van Morrison line, with a 21st century gender switch:

All the girls walk by dressed up for each other
(… Wild Night is Callin
g)

This is the stuff that scares me.

I’m (recently) 52 years old. I know that’s probably about the mean age of folks on this board, give or take year.

I know that each new generation of kids has their own lingo, tastes, mannerisms, rationale, and modes of communication.

But I feel pretty confident (perhaps foolishly so) that there’s never been a bigger gap in knowledge and understanding over a 2-3 decade period than that between the generation that came of age when computers were still a novelty (pre-1990, say) and those who came of age wholly online (born 2000 and beyond.)
