I'm pretty sure it was the influence of Herb Caen that got me started with the ellipses when I first started posting in chatrooms in the late 90's. Loved that guy...I am very clearly on team ellipse, which I read are called “boomer dots” by the youngs. Youngs obviously don’t understand how much Gen X values the snarky pregnant pause implied by skilled deployment of the ellipse. They also don’t do grammar.
ABC hasn't used ratings as an excuse at all, as far as I've seen. Nor would anyone believe them if they did, given the timing.I think JK made it easy because:
1) He lied in his maga comments
2) It is one of the most sensitive times in years and there are a LOT of people being fired for CK comments. He didn't read the room.
3) his ratings weren't good so he made it easy for ABC to use that as an excuse.
4) he made it easy for fcc to use "for the public good" clause in broadcasters licensing as an excuse
He was actually important, comparatively speaking.Or Franz Ferdinand...
Saw on CNN that Jimmy planned a full throated rebuttal, and no apology or back tracking during his monologue. Iger made the business decision that it wasn't worth the battle with FCC, so pretty clear line of events (and motivations).ABC hasn't used ratings as an excuse at all, as far as I've seen. Nor would anyone believe them if they did, given the timing.
The FCC "public interest" requirement has nothing to do with the content of speech and does not give them to right to legally penalize broadcasters for the content of their speech.
They are really showing us who they are.Pubs are going to milk to shit out of this. Kirk will have his own meme coin before Halloween.
Folks we are in big big trouble.
I'm not arguing with you. However, I don't remember in my lifetime seeing the right as galvanized. I think ABC, as a publicly traded company, did read the room and saw what was coming if they didn't act. As such, I think the show's performance as a money maker gave ABC the cover it needed to do what it was afraid to do. That is why I say JK made it easy. Had he not commented (and such a dumb comment as there was a ton of evidence by the time JK made his comment) he would likely still be in employed as ABC probably wanted to, but lacked the courage to end his show.ABC hasn't used ratings as an excuse at all, as far as I've seen. Nor would anyone believe them if they did, given the timing.

Eh, they are the left if (insert your favorite leftist) had been assassinated by a radicalized right wing nut. They are really showing us who they are.
But you agree that what the people on Fox News have been saying, and what Trump has been saying, and what scores of other people from the right have been saying on a constant basis are far, far, far, more inflammatory than anything JK said, right (not to mention they are serious and he is a comedian)."The FCC "public interest" requirement has nothing to do with the content of speech and does not give them to right to legally penalize broadcasters for the content of their speech."
My guess is they are using it (public interest) with regard to it being inflammatory given the political climate. I'm not saying it is being interpreted correctly, but they can at least argue it. That is why I said this is the type of argument a lawyer would make.
AP is currently banned from the White House, unless that ban has been lifted.I'm usually good with Reuters, BBC, AP, and the non-editorial portion of WSJ. The editorial section leans right.
What?Eh, they are the left if (insert your favorite leftist) had been assassinated by a radicalized right wing nut.
