Please indulge me telling this story as an intro...

I have a bucket list. On my bucket list was to watch an LSU football game on a Saturday night in Baton Rouge. Another item was to visit Richard's Club in Lawtell just outside Lafayette, LA to enjoy a night Zydeco music which was inspired from one of my favorite CDs

I got to see LSU play Alabama and it was a football game experience I will never forget

We had traveled to Richard's ( Reeshard's ) Club the day before and were taking pictures in front of the club when a young fellow approached us from the house next door and asked us if he could help us. I told him that it had my dream to attend a night of music in Richard's and was hoping to be here tonight for a night of Zydeco.

The young man told us he was Richard's son and that Richard died last night so the club would be closed. We expressed our regrets and were ready to leave, but he insisted that we come to the house and meet the family.

We sat for about 45 minutes and listened to the family tell stories about Richard and the history of the club that he loved. It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.

Any of you ever listened to Mermaid Avenue by Billy Bragg, Wilco, et al.? Performing Woody Guthrie songs that were apparently written but never recorded? From 2000, I think. Nearly every song is quite good. Some breathtakingly so. It's rare to find an album where every song is good, even among the greats.

I have both CDs.

Will go for a listen. In the meantime...

best thing i heard today.

Like Good Morning Vietnam, "i don't care what you play, just play it loud!"

This seems like a good song for these times. Or any times, really.

And it comes with a great joke up front.

I really hope y'all will listen to this song. It's by a friend of mine -- great Nashville singer-songwriter-rocker Tim Carroll. Many of his songs are loud boogie-woogie....lyrically smart and humorous. This is, I think, a perfect protest for today.

Please check it out.

Quite a propos.
