The Music Thread

This was a wake and bake Saturday for me.
"God save the child that rings that bell
It may have one good ring, baby, you can't tell
One watch by night, one watch by day
If you get confused, listen to the music play"

Always liked an SG. Liked it better than a Les Paul. It's the look I liked moreso than the sound. That duel cutaway look with the burgundy finish. Always a fantasy of mine. I bought a cheap electric bass that had that look. It was stolen out of my house late one night after a wild party. They stole my friend's amp too. Fuckers.

Love the Stones album. Love the Brothers homage to Dickey Betts' Memory of...
That's my jam.
But this is also my jam - once I learned some jazz chord inversions. But long before that, I was a huge Charlie Brown fan - and thus - a huge Vince Guaraldi fan... I just didn't realize it in the early 1960's. I was still shittin' yellow when this song came out. Cast Your Fate to the Wind:

Any musicians on this thread?
Instrument(s)?
Singer perhaps?
Do you read music or play by ear? Both?
Write music/compose?
Studied or self-taught?
Still in a band/ever played in a band?
Where did you get the talent (mother or father or both... perhaps neither)?
If we started your car and turned on the radio to the station it's on right now - what would we hear?
Were you a "band nerd" in middle/high school, or are/were you strictly a 4 chord Charlie on guitar?
Primarily a bass player, but also enjoy playing guitar.
Used to read music, now play by ear and/or chord charts
Write a bit, but mostly colloborating. Since COVID, I've gotten back into recording with a couple of bands from my younger days. We pass tracks back and forth adding parts. Also, have traveled to Nashville a couple of times in the last few years to record new music with a band I toured with during college. That has been a blast. We have 8 songs in the can and trying to get back together one more time to finish an album.

Just in the last 6mos. I joined a band locally after having not played regularly in a band in 10yrs. First gig at the end of the month.

My dad was also a bass player. He passed away about 1yr after I started playing. I think his passing was something that really focused my attention to music.

Cool stories. Sorry about your dad. I really like the bits about recording - with today's Pro Tools and such, emailing each other files to add your parts to the tracks - and then emailing them back. Amazing to think about - considering how it used to be.

Yes, COVID brought about a lot of interesting stuff in our lives... some good things in the midst of all that horror. I used that time to dive back into my roots, musically. I had forgotten and lost touch with so much stuff (so many bands and artists) - it's been a pleasure to delve back into all that stuff. This music thread helps bring back some memories too. Kudos to @BluHevn for starting this thread.

Do you play double bass too, or prefer e-bass? I'll bet you got a cool Fender P bass don't ya?
Are you in N.C.? East or West?

Final question: What plans do you and the band have for the album once it's finished in Nashville? Produce some LP's or CD's? Or simply release it digitally to all the platforms available?

It's a drizzly day in the Peoples Republic of Carrboro and the Southern Part of Heaven so for those who share my mellow mood, enjoy Milt Jackson and the great Oscar Peterson

Stick around for my favorite jazz artist, Bill Evans, if you are in the mood...
