This thread is totally random

Thought I would post this on the random thread. I went in this past Monday to have my prostate removed. The cancer was diagnosed over 3 years ago, but until this year it was not aggressive. My urologist has been monitoring it with regular PSA checks and biopsies since. He determined back in the summer that now was the time to do something. Both he and my oncologist recommended surgery. They said if you start with radiation and it comes back then surgery is not an issue because of scar tissue. The urologist took out lymph nodes and I go Monday to get the results. He is very confident, because it was caught early that the cancer hasn’t spread.

My main reason for posting this is to encourage all of y’all to get your prostate checked. Not just the finger up the ass (which is always fun), but also checking your PSA level. Prostate cancer is generally a non aggressive type of cancer, but it can grow and spread. My urologist told me he’s had men come in with their lower back killing them. A PSA test would show a reading of 60. At that point, there’s nothing they can do. Please look after yourselves.

Good luck with the surgery. They're doing a better job with cancer all the time. I'll be a five year survivor of stage 4 cancer of the larynx in mid January so I can sympathize. I just kept my head down and did what they told me. Hope it will for you.

Oh, and yes, get the PSA test. Hell, get both. They can tell different things and a moment's discomfort is a small tradeoff for catching it early.

I’ll have to have my PSA monitored for a year before they declare me cancer free. If it’s zero it means they got all the cells. Congratulations on your recovery. Cancer is a shitty, shitty disease.

Thanks and I wish you the best. Yeah, cancer sucks and I got lucky. Good doctors were a lot of that.

It was strange through the eyes of an old man to see that all my important medical people were women. I saw tow male doctors once each for minor things but all the surgery, radiation and chemo was handled by women doctors.

Close to the story of one of my dorm buddies. Cancer free past few years.

My surgeon is a man, but the rest of the team is women. Very competent group.

Discomfort? I ask for a prostate check every time I go to the doctor. Probably why my dentist doesn't talk to me any longer. 😎

In all seriousness, I hope the surgery is a success @Patb78 and everyone should have regular screenings.

Just watched Idiocracy with my daughter.
I told her it was a documentary of life after the second trump presidency.

Someone with some skills needs to CGI trump into that movie. The speech by Not Sure at the end sounded better than trumps speeches.

It was interesting that "Fox News" was the one that survived the dumbing down of the world.

I don't want to put this on the basketball thread.

Some really random post over on the IC basketball boards. Since I've canceled my membership, I've been reading the free boards. Brings back memories... 😁
This is talking about Bacot. This person's post have been deleted, so this is from someone quoting him.

These are very random and very interesting.

Speaking of random, on Wednesday I was driving down new 86 to Hillsborough. As I passed the camp at New Hope, I started recalling a friend of mine's wedding that was held there and how we had half way pissed of his bride when we snuck away and went out to throw boomerangs. Imagine my surprise to get a call from my daughter telling me that he had had a heart attack the first week in September at the World Boomerang Championship and died. It turns out that about the time I was driving past the wedding site was about the time they were holding a memorial service for him.

Here's to Tim. RIP.
