I am tired of the MAGA winning, that is true, though not for the reason you think. The "insults" follow directly from your own words. For instance, you keep using this word "lawfare" without having the slightest idea what it means. In fact, the vast majority of what you post is inaccurate.

What you don't understand about me -- and I think a lot of liberals -- is the value I place on principles. I don't hate MAGA because of some personal grudge. I hate MAGA because of its lies, stupidity and venality. Those are just objectively true characterizations. It is also an objectively true characterization that Cuomo is a creep and thus I wouldn't support him, even though he's an innocent babe compared to the people you guys elect or appoint to government. That's because principles matter to me.

Truth also matters to me. Nobody knows the whole truth, and outside of scientific proofs or empirical data, there's usually some contest between different understandings of the world. For instance, some people view the world as a kingdom of God, and some people do not. Both views are valid and I have no issue with either one. But just because we can't always determine what IS true, we can readily determine many things that ARE NOT true. And most MAGA and Trump bullshit falls into that latter category.

It is a fact that tariffs are incident on Americans and not on foreign countries, as Trump would have you believe. It is a fact that trade barriers lower global standards of living. It is a fact that most if not all countries that have tried protectionist trade policies became poorer and less competitive for it. It is a fact that, while America can tariff the whole world, other countries will not be tariffing either other. That means that, after the retaliatiory tariffs are imposed, American exporters will be unable to compete on price. Their stuff will be much more expensive. Thus will manufacturing LEAVE American, so that it can compete globally.

You guys can win elections ad infinitum and it will not affect those truths at all. Trump's economic policies strongly resemble those of Argentinian leader Juan Peron, who wrecked Argentina's economy for generations. That is a fact. It is a prediction -- not fact -- that Trump's policies will have a similar effect here, but the similarities between the policies cannot be denied.

Likewise, climate change is real. More fossil fuel drilling is money being flushed down the toilet. Jan 6 was not actually a peaceful day. We all know why Ashli Babbitt was shot. These things are objective fact. Your buddy Ray did in fact enter a conspiracy to subvert an election. That is not altered by whatever foibles Fani might have authored. He did the deed. Fact.

Does that make you feel better? Your friend is still guilty, whether or not he is brought to justice. And you're still as ignorant as you were this morning.
Why would the case against his friend go away? If the RICO case is reassigned to another prosecutor, how does that help his buddy?

The case is dead in the water. No other DA’s office in the State will touch this case.

“… After two failed attempts to block sentencing from occurring, Trump’s lawyers have turned to the highest court in the United States for help.

In an emergency application, Trump’s lawyers said the court should intervene “to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government.”

Sentencing in the case where the president-elect was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York, was going to occur just 10 days before inauguration. …”

“… "This Court should enter an immediate stay of further proceedings in the New York trial court to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government," Trump's lawyers wrote in the new filing.

They argue that the case should not go forward because Trump was protected by presidential immunity, as recognized by the Supreme Court earlier this year.

"The Supreme Court’s historic decision on Immunity, the Constitution, and established legal precedent mandate that this meritless hoax be immediately dismissed," Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

… Trump's Supreme Court request was filed by lawyer D. John Sauer, who the president-election intends to appoint as solicitor general, his administration's top courtroom advocate. Another Trump lawyer listed on the filing, Todd Blanche, is Trump's pick to be deputy attorney general. “

“… Mr. Trump’s lawyers argued in the Supreme Court filing that being officially deemed a felon might complicate Mr. Trump’s presidential duties.

“In fact, the prospect of imposing sentence on President Trump just before he assumes office as the 47th president raises the specter of other possible restrictions on liberty, such as travel, reporting requirements, registration, probationary requirements, and others — all of which would be constitutionally intolerable under the doctrine of presidential immunity,” Mr. Trump’s lawyers wrote.

… “Indeed, every adjudication of a felony conviction results in significant collateral consequences for the defendant, regardless of whether a term of imprisonment is imposed.”

The filing noted that Mr. Trump had also asked New York’s highest court, its Court of Appeals, for an emergency stay, acknowledging that litigants must ordinarily seek relief from lower courts before turning to the Supreme Court.

… For now, Mr. Trump’s odds of success at the Supreme Court are unclear. It takes five justices to grant a stay.

While some legal experts doubted the merits of his petition, the justices have come to his rescue before. The Supreme Court’s immunity ruling last year effectively thwarted a federal criminal case against Mr. Trump for his effort to subvert the 2020 election results. …”

What a great man. Just a pillar of integrity and morality. I'm getting a Lee Greenwoodesque freedom boner. Way to go, America!

Garland to release Smith’s Jan. 6 report, hold back Mar-a-Lago report

"Attorney General Merrick Garland plans to release only the volume of special counsel Jack Smith’s report dealing with Donald Trump’s plans to subvert the transfer of power after his loss in the 2020 election, holding back on sharing the Mar-a-Lago report while the president-elect’s two co-defendants still face trial.

Federal prosecutors made Garland’s plans clear in a Wednesday morning filing urging an appeals court to reject a bid from Trump valet Walt Nauta and property manager Carlos De Oliveira to bar the attorney general from releasing the report in its entirety.

Garland made the determination at Smith’s recommendation “to avoid any risk of prejudice.”

“The Attorney General determined that he will not make a public release of Volume Two while defendants’ cases remain pending. That should be the end of the matter,” prosecutors wrote.

The filing says the top members of the House and Senate Judiciary committees will be able to review the Mar-a-Lago report at the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Garland’s decision, however, all but assures the public will never see Smith’s report reviewing Trump’s mishandling of classified records at his Palm Beach, Fla., resort.

Under Trump’s DOJ, prosecutors are expected to drop charges against Nauta and De Oliveira, and Trump has moved to stock the top ranks of DOJ with his personal criminal defense team — the same cadre of attorneys who this week have fought to block release of Smith’s work entirely."

I don't think we need to see the documents report. We already know most of what was in it, and what we don't know -- i.e. what types of documents he kept -- probably we'd be better off not knowing.

But the J6 report is vital and it sounds like Garland is shoving Cannon's bullshit right where it belongs. Well, that's not quite true, but Garland is a polite guy. He'll just throw the ruling in the trash, instead of trying to shove it down her throat (which is what I would do, metaphorically of course -- I would hold a press conference to detail all of the reasons why Cannon's order was bogus and to make clear for the record that she is not a judge but rather a culture warrior in robes).

“Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito said he spoke with President-elect Donald Trump by phone this week in support of a former law clerk who is seeking a job in the incoming administration – but the justice said he did not discuss Trump’s pending effort to delay his sentencing.

“William Levi, one of my former law clerks, asked me to take a call from President-elect Trump regarding his qualifications to serve in a government position,” Alito said in a statement issued Wednesday. “I agreed to discuss this matter with President-elect Trump, and he called me yesterday afternoon.”

… In his statement, Alito said he spoke with Trump on Tuesday – and said he did not discuss the case with Trump. The president-elect filed his appeal Wednesday morning.

“We did not discuss the emergency application he filed today, and indeed, I was not even aware at the time of our conversation that such an application would be filed,” Alito said.

“We also did not discuss any other matter that is pending or might in the future come before the Supreme Court or any past Supreme Court decisions involving the President-elect.”

The Trump transition did not immediately respond to a request for comment.“

Yea Right GIF

Alito and Roberts are probably still indignant that most Americans have disabused themselves of the idea that this SCOTUS is honorable and independent.
