I finished Season 2 a couple of days ago, and immediately re-watched Rogue One.Finally finished Andor. Thought it was excellent after the first few episodes and the last half of the second season was superb.
It made me want a recut of Rogue One where we spend a lot more time with Cassian and Mon Mothma and way less time with Jyn. Also they can feel free to update the Tarkin and Leia FX now.
I'm on season 3, I decided to rematch them all before season 7.Caught up with season 7 of Black Mirror. Another fine season with a great episode, about which more in a moment. This series is a modern version of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone, but with a general theme of "modern tech, modern problems." Both shows at their best mix great stories with great ideas about the human condition.
Which brings me to episode 5 of this season (7), titled "Eulogy." It's a bit surreal, and gets going in a paced way, but turns out so very powerful. Its best asset though is the acting of Paul Giamatti. He is among the best actors currently working, and never really getting the recognition for it he deserves (one of the best performances of 2023 in the superb film The Holdovers). This episode is about extreme regrets and nostalgia for what was lost in younger life. You will likely think about it for some time after watching. Giamatti gives what I think is the second best performance from TV shows this year, behind Adam Scott's astounding work in Severance.
I watched all of Mob Land. It was exceptionally stupid with great acting.“Mob Land” anyone?
How about “Guilt” (BBC production)?
Rewatching Black Mirror and I'm on season 3.
There are so many incredible episodes of black mirror, I wish I was as capable at describing them as @an0maly, but San Junipero really touches me. It did in many ways when I first watched it and the second time, but this latest watching, combined with some recent news in my life, has given this episode even more personal meaning.
And Men Against Fire is deeply troubling as we near the technology to make it a reality.
Gotten through the first 3 episodes. And yeah, it does seem exceptionally stupid. Not sure I want to keep going.I watched all of Mob Land. It was exceptionally stupid with great acting.
When my wife got home, we started discussing black mirror San Junipero and ended up watching it together and talking until 2 am. I'm going to struggle today. The episode Testplay messed me up for days.
We just finished Department Q and enjoyed it. I haven’t read any of the novels, but the show has encouraged me to read them.Started watching Dept Q on Netflix. I’ve read all the Department Q novels, so am hopeful they do a good job. So far so good. The story is relocated from Denmark to Scotland, but so far (after the establishing pilot episode) they do seem to be retaining some of the humor and character development of the team from the novels.
Fingers crossed.
I watched that recently. To me it was the Star Wars I had always wanted - human stories with deep character development. Finally finished Andor. Thought it was excellent after the first few episodes and the last half of the second season was superb.
It made me want a recut of Rogue One where we spend a lot more time with Cassian and Mon Mothma and way less time with Jyn. Also they can feel free to update the Tarkin and Leia FX now.
That had some scares, but the one that really got to me was "Metalhead," about the killer robot "dog." It was scary enough I actually don't want to watch it again. The episode Testplay messed me up for days.
