Replacing a 73 year-old coach with a 72 year-old coach that has never coached in college would be a very UNC football thing to do. If we do hire Belichick(and I don't think it will happen) we would certainly get all the media coverage we could handle. ESPN would be camped out in Chapel Hill.

All this BB talk is cute, but come on, does anyone seriously think he's a possibility? I don't see someone like Bill Belichick particularly enjoying—or even willingly participating in—the recruiting trail. No chance in hell. This is nothing more than a bluff to NFL organizations. You won't pay me what I think I deserve? Fine, I'll go coach college then. C ya.

OK, I don't like the Belichek idea, but recruiting will not be an issue for him. He's widely regarded as one of the best coaches of all time, and a great talent evaluator. If a player wants to get drafted high, I can't imagine there's a better person to vouch for you than BB. Certainly nobody even remotely gettable for us. And the draw of playing for a guy who has won 6 Super Bowls would, I think, be irresistible for many top players.

Now, there are plenty of other concerns about the hire -- including whether BB is actually interested or is just fucking around -- but I don't think recruiting will be a problem.

Probably not, but I wonder why noone in the NFL picked him up after he left the Pats. Is he really that good of a coach or did he just strike gold with Brady, Gronk and Eddleman?

I think it was just a respect and courtesy interview UNC gave BB. I mean, if one of the great all timers is interested in your job you have to hear him out.

Belichick’s 37 year old son Stephen is the defensive coordinator at U of Washington. Let’s say his Dad becomes the UNC head coach, Stephen becomes UNC DC working with his Dad. They get a lot of attention, build the brand and bring in some talent. Then BB retires and his son becomes head coach. It’s setting up his son for the future and using the media attention Belichick brings to build a foundation. Just a theory.

People cite Bill Walsh returning to Stanford as a cautionary tale. But, BB's lack of college coaching isn't that big of a deal since college football is QUICKLY transitioning to the pro model. Mack excelled in the old model, particularly recruiting, so he couldn't make the transition. Bill's a different animal.

How would BB handle not having the players 24/7? There are strict time limitations on practice in college.

Mutually beneficial PR move. UNC gets the press from interviewing one of the greatest coaches of all time. BB gets to show future employers that he's still engaged, interested and to-be-considered for HC positions.

I could see that.

Every time i've envisioned BB being a risky but interesting hire, I see him bringing in guys that are more familiar with college program building. But his son has only been doing college for a single year, right. Otherwise his whole body of work has been in the pros. I love the idea of BB's X&O's and teaching, his eye for personnel, but SOMEBODY is going to need many other hats to make it work at the college level.

It feels like this could easily end up in disaster but how can a program like UNC say no to the most acclaimed NFL coach of all time if he wants to come? One thing I’m sure of, BB only cares about winning. I don’t generally care for the coach in waiting and Junior Belichik is short on proven ability, so I still think there are probably better options. It would definitely spark interest in the program though.

Is BB still tight with Brady? Can you imagine if Brady did him a solid and visited a couple of 5 star recruits for us?

That could actually work out.

It will be very interesting to see how this shakes out. Word is that Belichick impressed with his interviews and has some momentum. I still can’t believe it but him being hired wouldn’t be shocking to me now. I don’t want it to happen and hope it is all just the crazy stuff that you hear during coaching searches.

Really starting to think it's going to be Belichick and I'm not sure what to think about that
It is an out of the box hire. Definitely some big potential negatives and positives that no other candidate would have. Hard to see how it makes sense unless it comes with some serious financial backing from donors.
