Cleared by NCAA, Luka Bogavac Awaits UNC Eligibility Resolution

The heralded international newcomer enrolled at UNC in August.

Spanned the globe for a shooter, plucked him from the Balkans, flew him halfway across the world, admitted him to school, got him cleared by the NCAA, and now this.....

No other serious P5 program would have any such holdup over an important player. He cleared admissions, he cleared the NCAA. We didn't pay him to get an education. We paid him to get buckets. Let him get buckets. God, this university sometimes.....

So he's cleared NCAA eligibility, he's cleared UNC admissions, he as his student visa, but there's a 4th hurdle of clearing UNC eligibility to participate on the basketball team? I've never heard of that. Does every incoming player have to pass that eligibility requirement?

I don't get the appeal. He has always struck me as the town drunkard type, and nothing more. Every time I watch him, I expect bubbles to come out of his mouth every few words, along with a "hic".

If they don’t want Hubert to be the coach, should’ve fired him last offseason rather than just expect he’s going to fire himself. The players might end up decent even if you think he’s a bad coach.

What in the actual fuck is going on???

Just totally absurd, we are paying this guy likely 7 figures and yet still have a part of the university saying 'Not so fast my friend'.... I try to give a lot of latitude on the coaching decisions as I am not there to see practice and have no real expertise in basketball past the high school level.

But seeing this type of nonsense gives credence to the other complaints of the incompetence and ineptitude of this management team (GM included).

Good God am i praying for a successful hoops season, but Luka is part of any rational possible way for that to happen

Our athletic department and/or whomever is holding this up is a freakin' clown show.

He committed to us 4.5 months ago and has been in school for 2 months...we couldn't figure out whatever this is in that amount of time.

I'm just embarrassed for us.

Wow. CBB is a wide open shit show at the moment and LET UNC wants to over police itself? WTF?
 
It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if they let him practice and play in the blue/white game. How is he not “cleared” exactly?

Ben said that there are no signs pointing to that. I guess this one will be easy to determine. If it is the BOT behind it, then he won't be deemed eligible to play.

In any event, very odd, for sure.

He could technically play without penalty in the exhibitions before there should be any issues, so I'm not sure why they'd not let him play vs BYU and WSSU.
 
Maybe this is naive but I’m just going to assume this is going to get cleared up in time for Luka to play in the opener with no issue.

Big picture though this is yet another piece of evidence in a long string of them that UNC is profoundly incompetent when it comes to managing their two biggest sports programs. We have so many built in advantages and still find a way to constantly knee cap ourselves. It’s astounding.
