There was not a called timeout before the Free Throw. There was a slight delay while the refs stupidly looked at the monitor to confirm Cadeau's three pointer was in fact shot from behind the arc.
Yeah. Even though it wasn’t officially a timeout, it was effectively a timeout. It was the perfect time to discuss what to do after a made free throw.

They’ve got 6 players averaging 9 to 11 ppg as well. Massive freshman Turk (7-2) and 2 6-10 guys that play minutes. Still, leading rebounder is Matt Cross at 6-7 (Frosh year at Miami) who gets 8 rpg.
Seven footer, hmmm maybe CHD should interview him for next season while were there.

Fun facts about UNC and SMU:

Hubert Davis replaced Roy Williams as UNC head coach. Roy Williams replaced Matt Doherty (his former assistant at Kansas) as UNC head coach. And prior to that, Roy Williams replaced Larry Brown as Kansas head coach.

Andy Enfield replaced Rob Lanier as SMU head coach, who replaced Tim Jankovich as SMU as head coach, who replaced Larry Brown as SMU head coach, who replaced Matt Doherty as SMU head coach.

So both Hubert Davis and Andy Enfield have been part of a line of head coaches who have replaced both Matt Doherty and Larry Brown.

And Tim Jankovich, who replaced Larry Brown at SMU, followed Bill Self to Kansas as an assistant coach when Bill Self replaced Roy Williams at Kansas. And Bill Self was once an assistant
to Larry Brown at Kansas. And of course Larry Brown had once been an assistant to Dean Smith at UNC. So every head coach at UNC, SMU, and Kansas who replaced either Matt Doherty, Larry Brown, or Roy Williams— all of whom
had coached at both UNC and Kansas in some capacity— had previously coached at some point and in some capacity at either UNC or Kansas or both.

That's a family shrub.

SMU is a very good 3FG% team (38%), very good OR%, and they get to the line a lot. Not great defensively.

They play 4 G/W more than 20 min/g, so Carolina may match up well outside. They will have 3 guys 6-4 or less on the floor together at times.

Boopie Miller, who some may remember from Wake Forest last year, runs the show. Great playmaker, capable 3FG% (37% last season), but only 1/3 of his shots are 3FGAs.

Edwards starts at the 2 and shoots 35.5% 3FG%, but their 2 best 3FG shooters are Harris and Oquendo, who usually come off the bench, and take half of their shots from 3.

Matt Cross (Miami, Louisville) starts at the 3, and spends more time at the 4 when 3 of the G/Ws are on the floor together. He had a 13 pt/15 rebound game against Carolina, and is 5-9 3FG career against Carolina.

6-11 Traore starts at the 4, not high usage, but good FG%, good OR%, gets to the line.

7-2 freshman Yigitoglu from Turkiye has a great OR%, good FG%, great shot blocker, gets to the line, but very foul prone. 6-10 Colbert, ditto (a little better offensively).

kenpom has Carolina 88-82 (69%)

3 degrees of separation. And they’re probably all 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon.

Roy Williams was in He Got Game with Denzel Washington.

Denzel Washington was in Ricochet with John Lithgow.

John Lithgow was in Footloose with Kevin Bacon.

And I met Roy! So I’m only 4 degrees away from my man Bacon.
Actually, I think the game goes we are all pretty much within 6 degrees of Kevin. Thus the name. I think that’s how the game is played, correct?

Have we played SMU since the Jon Koncack game in Greensboro?
From goheels.com

• Carolina is 2-1 all-time vs. the Mustangs with wins in Dallas at Reunion Arena in 1986 and the Smith Center in 1987.
• This is the first time the teams have played since a 90-74 Tar Heel victory in Chapel Hill on 12/12/1987. J.R. Reid led all scorers with 21 points, one of four Tar Heels to score in double figures.

Trimble Expected Back.

I can see bringing Seth in off the bench to start with his first game back. Ease him in a little slowly. Maybe 20 minutes of action tonight, maybe more depending on how he’s feeling and how things are going for him and the team.

If Hubert starts Seth tonight, who sits? Ian? He of the 4 straight 20+ pt games? To me that would be silly. “Hey thanks for filling in as a starter Ian… but you ain’t Wally Pipping Seth, even if you are good for 25 pts a game. Have a seat son, we’ll work you in after the first TV timeout.”

I still say if Elliot can’t defend the taller guards and if he hasn’t tamed the turnover beast, then start RJ at point. Seth and Ian at 2/3.

It’s either that or go 4 guards (starting Elliot, RJ, Seth and Ian) and one forward.

What’s your starting line up, assuming Seth is 100% and Ian continues his epic scoring streak?

Sit Powell...Jackson, Cadeau, Davis, Trimble, & Washington start.

Powell then enters in the slot most needed pretty early on.

I guess Cadeau, RJ, Trimble, Jackson and Washington/Lubin. But I also wouldn't mind RJ, Trimble, Jackson, Powell and Washington/Lubin.

I think the main 7 should be Cadeau, RJ, Trimble, Jackson, Powell, Washington and Lubin. I don't think Withers and Tyson should be used as much as they have been.

Elliot’s not going to the bench…

Pull him if he starts slow or is ineffective but this team can’t afford not to start their best playmaker

Seth or Drake off the bench

I agree that Cadeau will continue to start. It would be very unconventional to start Jackson, Cadeau, Davis, Trimble, & Powell and I think there might be a situation where that could happen but as a rule I think the one to sit has to be Powell and in the "pivot" it has to be Washington to start.

I would agree - at least for tonight, and maybe the next game, until Seth is 100% back. What if he gets back to 100% and playing like he did at the beginning of the year - how do you not start him? If Ian continues to score 25 points a game, how do you not start him?

Scoring is not a problem. Defense is. Seth starts no matter what - if he is 100% healthy - just because of his defense.

I can see Hubert giving the start Eliot and bringing Ian off the bench for instant offense.

So four guards and one forward.
