Has any viewer ever watched a basketball game and thought, I really wish they would use 33% of my television screen to show the coach walking the sideline?

Hubert failed to get a good big, and this is a poorly coached team. Defense is too inconsistent and the offense is not structured enough. Nothing but one on one shots off the dribble and 3s. Hubert might get another year but I don't see it being any different unless he decides to actually coach an offensive scheme and a defense that doesn't just switch on everything.

I see I'm not the only one who is wondering what kind of offense Hubert is running. They talk about it at the beginning here. NBA offense without NBA players, except for Jackson and Powell. And what happened with Cadeau driving to the basket and scoring? Why did they go away from it? And a great point made about 7:00 in this. Hubert is trying to force a square peg in a circle with a offense that doesn't fit the players he has. And no movement without the ball and off ball screens.

The Postgame: More of the Same

The clear refusal of HD to deviate from his chosen strategy is what's so frustrating. I really thought he would've changed his approach after the '22-23 season. The current offense is as good as players being able to hit open 3s at a respectable %. A poor shooting team that also can't o-rebound is an extra terrible idea

Defensively, this team has improved a lot. I can't fault what they're doing on that end with their size and front court. If you told me mid-December that in late January UNC was top-30 in defense efficiency I'd be thrilled. The offense is the unit that has not come close to maximizing its potential

There has to be skilled size across the country who would LOVE to play with a PG like Cadeau. How many assists would he average on a team with some size that can shoot? If I'm HD, that is the #1 priority starting now. Retaining EC and building a roster to maximize his talents because right now they're being wasted

And Hubert just stood there and let it happen last night. Not once did he take a time out or take a guy out and get on their case for taking those shots.

You would trust that HD could build a roster to maximize Cadeau's talents? UNC is going to need more than a single big man out of the portal. UNC is going to need just about a whole new team. That prospect is scary with HD in charge which I think he will be. I think he gets another year unfortunately.

There are scenarios where I would give HD the chance to build that roster. Wilson signing on is the primary one. But let's say EC, ST and DP all say they are coming back in addition to Wilson. Then you give HD a market NIL budget for a big man and give him the opportunity to right the ship. Of course this is all hypothetical and it's probably more likely that Wilson goes to UK and DP goes to the NBA, but there are scenarios where I would give HD the chance. I would not give him that opportunity if we miss the tournament and all we have coming back is EC, ST and JW.

That's the thing... corner 3s are big part of HD's offense and you have to take those shots when being defended like that. How many open 3s did Drake/Seth pass up to turn it over or force tough 2s? Because there was a help defender in the lane on every drive in the second half

I can't fault HD for RJ's shooting or even Cade Tyson being unplayable. BUT you have to try to adjust the offense when it becomes clear shooting is going to be a major weakness and like 22-23 he's not doing that

I think there is absolutely no reason at all to think that he's leaving. His family loves Carolina, he's close with JWash, James Brown and his family, and the whole Carolina community.

I think freaking out that he might leave to somewhere where he "has a better shot of winning" is just nuts.

Cadeau, Trimble, Tyson, Lubin, JWash, James Brown, possibly Powell, possibly Caleb Wilson, our new guards, and a couple of solid portal additions could be a fantastic lineup.
You could replace Tyson with me and it would be the same.
