The fact that you don’t recognize that some of the comments you’ve made about Coach Davis cross over into personal is why I’d prefer not to get into a back and forth with you.
You are full of shit here. I've never said anything remotely close to negative about HD as a person. Point me to any comment from me that you feel did that. You don't want to get into a "back and forth" with anyone because you have nothing to point out from the staff this year to praise. It's not just me who you refuse to state your observations with, it's everyone. You blindly support the jobs done by HD and his staff this year, all while telling me and others that we've already made up our minds. Do you not see the irony?

We missed back-to-back NCAATs under Doh...

2001-2002: No postseason
2002-2003: NIT

Before that was the 1972-73 & 1973-74 seasons, which were the last 2 seasons before the NCAAT was opened to non-conference champs.
doh! literally, lol.

i should've known that but in my defense, i was a pre-teen at the time. middle school was already rough enough without also being devoted to the disaster that was UNCBB under matt doherty.

i really, really want(ed) HD to be the guy but the proof is in the pudding.

as i said earlier, even if we call 21/22 a "success" then he's 2/4 and that still isn't acceptable.

by all accounts, HD is a great man and a great representative of the program that Dean built but the program is about more than one man and it is also very, very much defined by winning which we simply aren't doing at a high enough clip.

when is the last time that we missed 2 NCAA tournaments in 3 seasons? has that ever even happened?
Well, the 2025 book isn't completely written yet. We could go on an NCSU-type run here at the end. That said, the pudding is getting awful thick at this point.

yeah, the script-flipping that would have to occur would have to be very similar to what state did last year, like you said.

problem is, we don't even have a temu DJ burns to go along with our stable of guards.

it just ain't happening.

We could but I don't expect it.

My biggest objections are that I think Hubert deserves at least one year with just his players. That's a fairly traditional approach. I can certainly see him being on a short leash as far as next year.

More particularly, it strikes me as a horrific time to completely revamp the entire program, and I don't see it ending much differently if he's fired this year, and bringing an outsider with his staff and his players in a time when the whole college basketball world is in disarray. I've been saying for over a year that the portal rules are going to have to be seriously changed and the announcers were saying that the other night. I think this is about the last time to risk having to do a complete overhaul.

After all, if Hubert does put it together, he's a great face for the program. The whole risk/ gain seems pretty clear to me. What are your particular points of disagreement?

I have no opinion on the underlying question, but aren't all the players on the roster Hubert's players? He chose to bring RJ back (probably for considerable $$). Who else did he not recruit?

yes - RJ is the last Roy recruit left.

the "let HD get his guys" thing worked after 2023, but not in 2025. these last 2 teams have been all his.

last year, pretty pretty good. this year, big yikes.

i really don't know where i stand here. not mad at the people who want HD gone or the people who think he should get another year.

it sucks all around.

We’re not going to find sway each other in any direction.

Continuing to go back and forth is fruitless. Have a nice night.

I meant on this team. HD and only HD constructed the roster. Everyone on the team is there because HD wanted them there.

Again, I have no underlying opinion because I see both sides, but I don't think it's right to say, "let HD have a chance with his guys." These are his guys.
I think he was essentially saying give HD one more year.

Agreeing to disagree is one thing. Making up bullshit is another. Point out a post of mine that criticizes HD as a person, or admit that you are spreading bullshit.

i love Roy but he is not infallible. if we miss the tournament again this season, the results of HD's tenure have been wholly unacceptable. full stop. idgaf what Roy says. HD is his guy and he's likely never going to be able to look at the situation dispassionately.

and no one is questioning HD's love and passion for UNC. some of that framing from Roy was frankly a bit obnoxious and condescending. other people do in fact deeply care about UNC and UNC BB.

I think it's less of a matter of who he has on his roster, than who he doesn't have on his roster (i.e. legit 5, stretch 4).

Folks who argue that the recruiting misses are on him are not wrong.

But folks who use "these are his guys" to mean that Hubert is losing with the roster that he hand crafted and explicitly wanted, are arguing in bad faith (imo).
