I think we bounce back with a W over Bama. Expect a fired up crowd and Powell in the starting lineup

This team is too talented to keep losing. The light will turn on soon.

Yes. Still, we've played two of the toughest teams we've played when our All American is struggling and the team hasn't found its identity. As I said in an earlier post, It's virtually a UNC tradition to struggle with line ups, substitution patterns and lose some wtf games in jelling as a team. A couple of our best teams haven't and some have. Remember Santa Clara?

I don't expect this to be one of our best teams. I expect they will end up being pretty good, though and represent us well. That works for me. I hope we have the patience to see this NIL thing out. I believe that there are going to be a bunch of changes back and forth for a few years. Chasing to be on the cutting edge of all of those could really damage the perception of who we are as a program. That's more important to me than any one year. I'd rather be positioned to get the best future position than to overcommit in an unsettled situation.

We have some promising things, but dang HD needs to acknowledge our deficiencies and change up D every so often. Throw in some zone for 2- 3 min stretches, trap, etc instead of sitting back and getting pillaged off set plays. We can't give up 90+ every game and expect to make the tournament. As excited as I am with Jackson's offense, his off ball D is about as bad as I've seen. Just dreadful. Drake is the future.

It’s all part of the process. These games are to see what you’ve got. The Heels have shown that there’s a lot in place. The fine tuning takes place now in practice.

The goal isn’t to peak now.

Agree, but if we don’t beat Alabama it will be nearly impossible for us to snare a halfway decent seed in the Tourney, given the weakness of the ACC. We need a quality win soon.

Yep. The team has shown flashes for sure and I think can be pretty good, but these early season games all still count. The reality is that if we lose all or most of our non-con matchups against other good teams, that will really hurt our tournament seeding, or even tournament berth chances if we struggle in ACC play.

Bama is basically a must win game. Considering how down the ACC seems to be this year it’s going to be hard to get back up in the polls and seeds if they lose that game. (Outside of dook, were are the other top-tier games? Maybe UF?)

The next month will be telling. Alabama, GT, LaSalle, Florida, UCLA, Campbell. Should really win the GT, LaSalle, and Campbell games, they don’t really help the resume but we need wins. Alabama and Florida are both ranked so great opportunity to get a win to help the resume. UCLA is currently 6-1 against a soft schedule with their only loss was to New Mexico. We go 0-3 against those three I don’t think we make the tournament.

I don’t care if they go 0-30 and miss the tourney again as long as they’re all fighting and scrapping from the jump, and maturing and developing with each game.

So far, all I see is a team that is pillow soft and immature, and only toughens up and finds focus when they’re in such a hole that there’s nothing to lose. It’s something, but it ain’t a lot.

I love HD, but all his stomping around the sidelines hasn’t been working. He, RJ, and Seth need to show what kind of leaders they are and start molding this team to be much, much tougher. They can’t magically get bigger or more talented, but they can gain a lot more mental resolve and focus. If not, things will go south fast.

With three losses already, that's just the way the math works out when taking into account the remaining OOC schedule, a 20 game conference slate, and the nature of postseason tournaments.
Oh it’s possible I’m just betting on less than 10. The ACC is weak this year.

The ACC was weak last year too and a more talented, complete UNC team went 17-3. We likely will have to duplicate that conference record to avoid a double digit loss season and I can't see that happening unless we magically discover that Bacot has another year of eligibility.

The fans today are the equivalent of the people who were born on third. In the 60s, making the tournament wasn't a given. I remember our trip to the NIT in my freshman year in the Spring of 71. I think I might value the team more because of that history than I value the team's success. UNC basketball and its values have for a long time run more deeply than the win/loss record to me.

Iow, all you whiners go piss up a rope.
Went to the 73 NIT semi-final when we lost to ND at the old MSG. Had tix to final but decided to enjoy the city instead.

If I recall we actually had a banner hung in Carmichel and maybe the Dome that read "NIT 3RD PLACE 1973". Not a bad showing back then but lost its luster over the years and was taken down.

A lot to get figured out. No decent 5 and the team’s best option at 4 is a freshman playing out of position

At the point in the season we can see Jwash hasn’t taken a leap and Tyson won’t be a major contributor

Get the defense sorted and continue to develop the freshman and this team can still be pretty fun to watch and beat most teams

sadly, spot on.

Time to start Drake and use Withers in a similar role as last season. Then pray you can find 40 mins at the 5 between Jwash/Lubin

With Cade not being much of a factor that means major minutes again for all the guards with Ian filling in at 1-3
