RJ Davis, Cadeau, and Jackson combined to shoot 10-24 (41.6%) on 2FGAs, and 4-18 (22.2%) on 3FGAs. Withers, Washington, Powell, Lubin and Tyson combined for 9 points. Carolina committed a season-high 18 turnovers. The offense was TERRIBLE. ...and Carolina won. ...with defense.

Yeah, I watched the game. I'm frustrated by Carolina's lack of effectiveness defending the PnR, but there are different ways to do it correctly depending on your personnel and theirs, so I'm not sure what Carolina is trying to do at times, and it looks like the players aren't sure either sometimes. This could be because Carolina is trying to do different things at different times. I expect this to improve as the season progresses.

A lot of this is execution in which players have to make the correct reads and correct decisions. Not knowing how Coach Davis is trying to defend the PnR in every situation, I don't know if it's tactics or execution.

RJ Davis has been in the program for 5 years. Washington and Trimble 3 each. Withers, Lubin, and Claude are experienced, albiet in other programs and roles. Communication should be better.

Defense has been a problem in several games this year, but that doesn't mean it was yesterday.
Offense has been elite in several games this year, but that doesn't mean it was yesterday.
Carolina beat GT because the defense was really good while the offense struggled mightily.
All good points. I would characterize it more as the Heels won because the defense (and rebounding) was good enough against a pretty bad team.

GT made 32.4% of their 2FGAs. 12 2FGs made in 40 minutes. The NCAA D1 average is 50.9%. GT is better than an average NCAA D1 team. Better than average offensively, too. Defense has a bigger impact on a team's 2FG% than 3FG%. GT was only 8-24 on 2FGAs in the first half (33.3%), and even worse 4-13 (30.8%) in the 2nd half. Again, the NCAA D1 average is 50.9%, and GT is shooting 49.3% on 2FGAs for the season. And before Heelsandeers points out players missing, the same players were missing against Oklahoma, also on the road, and GT shot 50% on 2FGAs.

Look, I'm not throwing a parade because Carolina beat GT by 3, I'm not pretending Carolina is anywhere close to as good as many of us hoped, and I'm not pretending the defense is as good as it needs to be, but against GT, the offense was really bad, and the defense, which hasn't been really good this season, was really good.

Heels fall out of the top 25. Going to be a lot harder to climb back up the poll playing a weak ACC, too. This could be Hubert's second top 25 preseason team in three years to miss the tournament.

If we win, we will get ranked again. If we play like we did against Ga Tech, we won't be ranked, nor will we deserve to be ranked. That said, this team has the potential to get a lot better. Let's see what happens.

I've always believed playing a tough OOC schedule can only help but this seems like a pretty clear case where it didn't. 6 of the first 12 games will have been against top 20ish Kenpom teams. Losses to Florida and UCLA and they will be on the outside looking in by March short of a miraculous ACC run

And yes many little things could've shifted some of those outcomes in their favor but they didn't and so the pressure continues to build. A convincing win over Florida would do this team wonders

I’m not sure why anyone thought he was choosing UNC. Other than vague reports by recruiting “experts” that said it was close. Yeah, right. Need that engagement folks…

We're a football school now.

There is a little bit of discussion on the biorhythms thread. But I don't think this was a terribly exciting game overall.
