Our struggles to rebound really killed us down the stretch. We let Florida get a lot of second chance points when we had a chance to close out the game.

RJ’s front end free throw miss hurt as well.

I also thought there was a little fools’ gold in our comeback. While we certainly scored points off of hustle, we also scored a good number of points after a lot of dribbling and one-on-one play, which led to hitting some tough shots. That’s not sustainable.

Didn't watch the game tonight and glad I didn't. I don't think I could take another close loss where the Heels started slow and came back but couldn't get the win. I coach my son's 15-17 year old rec team and we lost by 3 in OT tonight. That was our 3rd loss by 4 or less, and 2 of them have been in OT.

Now regarding Carolina. These slow starts have been an issue all season. They have the ability to come back and the ability to beat these good teams. But the slow starts are killing them and it doesn't seem like Hubert has an answer to correct it. They still don't have a win against a top 25 team, and winning against weak ACC teams isn't going to help them in regards to making the tournament. And if they lose some games to non top 25 teams they will be doomed. If they don't make the tournament this year then I think Hubert is going to be on the hotseat.

That seems to be the way the team has played in the half court since Hubert has been the coach.

Remember when teams were considered to have a brutal schedule if they played against us in the non-conference? I do. 0-5 against good teams in not acceptable here. Hubert deserves to be fired if this team misses the tourney.

Sadly, yes, it likely will be. And I say sadly not because it may not be deserved if we don't make the tournament, but because I've really wanted him to succeed, as he played for Dean Smith and then coached for Roy and I do enjoy the historic legacy of UNC coaches here, especially as I've been following UNC basketball since the early 80s. And he also seems like a great guy. But if you're getting paid as much money as he is and you're leading a blue blood program then you can't afford to miss the NCAA tourney in two of your first four seasons and not at least have your seat get really warm. Of course he's still got plenty of time to turn it around, either this year or next year, but it does need to happen at some point this season or next season or he's going to be in big trouble.

I have a hard time seeing UNC firing Hubert after this season unless we win like 12 games total and it’s obvious that the team has quit on him. If he does miss the tournament though he will have serious job pressure going into a season where the roster will likely be full of transfers or current players that don’t have a ton of experience. That would be a very tough spot.

He won't be fired this season even if we do miss the tourney. I do think he will be fired if we miss the tourney this season and next season. I'm sure that you and others will say that's not good enough, but I don't see the powers-that-be letting him go that quickly, especially with Roy standing in his corner. If he doesn't make the tourney and have a good season next year then he will be in big trouble.
 
Can't have Carolina PGs with TOs and missed FTs the final 90 seconds. Sorry to see it, but EC is dreadful. No confidence. He needs to sit. Play RG and ST. And if there was a way to sit HD, we should. Taking out Jackson for Withers down the stretch was willful negligence. Terrible coaching. Other than Caleb's dagger in the FF, has a HD team ever beaten a top 10 team when we had the lead with 2 minutes to play? Ever?
