That still doesn't mean Carolina has been good more often than not the past 5 years. The fact is they haven't. I guess the program should just be satisfied and chalk it up to that's just the way things are now.
You don’t have to be satisfied but it’s what it is. A different coach doesn’t guarantee anything.

I gave you two programs that have not had downturns on UNC's level of late, and by late I mean a long time. Are you going to answer the question I posed to you several posts ago - What are those two programs not having significant drop-offs like UNC; What are they doing that UNC is not doing, in order to still remain a fixture at the top?
You gave me 2 and dook ain’t winning like they used to.

You really are wearing some Carolina colored glasses. Do you really think it is ok if they miss the tournament again this year just because it's harder to be good in today's landscape? You think that is how Bubba thinks about it? You can't say the program has not been down the past 5 years more often than it has been in decades. That's just the facts. But you seem to be saying it's okay and fans should just accept it because that's just the way things are today. I don't think any real fan should accept mediocrity and not trying to be the best. I doubt the other big name programs are okay with that, and they shouldn’t be if they want to remain successful. All of that has been my whole point and why I say you have your head in the sand when it comes to this matter.

You know man, I wear those Carolina Blue glasses too.

The whole point of Carolina basketball for me is the enjoyment I get from watching and from talking to others. Winning is just a cherry on top.
If it ever reaches a point where it is not enjoyable then it's not worth my time. I will find other things to fill my time.

It seems like many "Fans" have reached that point where it is not enjoyable. Maybe they should consider how it fits into their lives moving forward.

With all of the changes, it might not be the same in the future as it once was. That's fine, change is part of life.

Don't take this wrong, I'm not saying no one should critique the team, the coaches, etc. or discuss the state of affairs and how to improve, etc. But when one finds themselves constantly making negative post about something that they should be getting enjoyment from, it might be time for a break.

I'm very careful about what I say because I don't want to throw off on these kids and the teams that have given me years of joy. If I get to a point where it becomes negative, I'll take a break. There's plenty of real-world bullshit to take up the anxiety and negativity portions of my life.

I’m just a fan. I’m going to support whoever is out there.

The entitlement displayed by some UNC fans can be really off putting.

I think concern and some criticism towards HD are valid. But it's not his fault our guys *continually* come out flat. It's not - or should not be - his job to get his players' energy up to play a frigging D1 basketball game against a top team. 5-28 from three happens, but you just can't take it seriously when we shoot abysmally and this posse of numbnuts responds with "FIRE THE COACH!!!"
It may not be his "fault" that the team comes out flat, but it's certainly his responsibility to fix.

And we're not having this discussion because of one 5-28 shooting night, we're having it because we're in year 4 with what appears to be yet again a bubble team (3 out of 4 years) at a school where making the NCAAT should be the bare minimum standard of success. And because the team looks very, very out of sorts on the court without consistent effort and production.

He's got the rest of the season to try to turn it around before his seat potentially goes from warm to hot, but that's where we're headed unless there is significant change.

It's not entitlement. You just don't really care if they are good or not.
You know that Carolina Fans are spoiled. We had Dean and Roy, so much success. Some fans do feel entitled because of that. With all of the changes, there's always a possibility that we become normal. I hope not. I hope to see HD in a championship game in the next few years. But who knows.

Do we have to pay a premium for basketball players? What's the evidence of that? or, at least, 1 or 2 examples? Not saying that you're wrong; I just haven't heard that claim before.
I'm basing that off of HD/staff offering Cliff, AJ, and others, the same as the places that landed those players (along with Caleb - who's yet to commit). So, it seems that if money is the issue, then UNC has to pay more than the others.

I guess the question then is, why have we become "normal," while the other blue-bloods haven't?

Hubert has made some changes in the line up. He’s shaking some things up in that regard. Recall Tyson and JWash were starters to begin the season. But no longer. More changes may be in the offing… like not starting Cadeau. He’s been horrible lately and NOT deserving of a starter’s spot. What has his assist to turnover ratio been the past 5 games? Ouch! Carolina point guards don’t do that shit and expect to start the next game.

There is no surprise in terms of roster. Lack of true, D1 bigs. We all knew that coming in.

As far as not getting up for the first half, coming out flat, etc. Yes, that’s on both players and coaches. Coaches should get em fired up in the locker room before the tip… if players come out flat, take the starters out ASAP and put in the blue team. Period. Any Carolina coach knows that.
The fact that Hubert hasn’t done that is telling… it tells me he didn’t learn his lessons well from Dean and Roy.

It starts on the practice floor. And then it continues in the first 4 minutes of the game. Produce in practice, you get to start. Come out flat at the start, you sit for a minute and think about. When put back in, you’d better come out gang busters like you should have at the tip.

Now, once the coach has tried that, and the team still doesn’t shit fire… then you have to try some junk defenses and change your offensive schemes… anything that may work to slow some teams down, or get your guys in a place to play to their strengths and to play within their limitations. Take your lumps as they come. Take some W’s as they come.

As fans, it’s easy to sit back and cast stones because we don’t live in a glass house.
