You have to be a casual fan or not know anything about basketball to think things are ok and have been ok more than not for UNC basketball the past 5 years.

The scouting report is out on everybody.

Most every team is predictable.

Every team spams high pnrs while half the team stands around and watches?

If you have the players to make that work it’s one thing. This team clearly doesn’t

UNC is small and hasn’t shot well enough to compensate for it.

I don’t know if there any magic adjustments to fix that.

A way to fix that is to occasionally get your players easy looks by running offense that plays to their strengths

This team gets nothing easy there against high level competition

Well, unless you count players like Withers, J Wash, or Elliot getting left wide open from 3 because they can’t make them

Shoot better, protect the ball better, make a big shot or two.

This team isn’t that far away from being pretty good.

Can’t defend, not good at rebounding, don’t get many assists, not great at shooting. I’d say they are pretty far

If you can't make 3s and you don't have a big man that can score inside, the other teams are just going to pack the lane and take away any drives. This team needs to get turnovers and run for easy transition baskets and make 3s to win games without a big man to score and get rebounds. They aren't good enough defensively to get enough turnovers to make a difference, and they aren't making 3s, so they are losing against other good teams.

Did he break up with his GF? Did someone close to him pass away?

Don't laugh. Things like that can make a difference.

I'm probably too old to be following this stuff, but I did wonder if this contributed to RJ's slow start. It appears he and Deja broke up in the summer or early fall (I noticed he had stopped commenting on her IG posts, and she had a million of them in September.) But he also was hurt at the beginning on the season, too. I'm glad he's starting to work his way back to normal, although this offense ain't helping things.

They've had better seasons than UNC, lately. Are you saying they haven't?
Also, please address KU, if you don't want to talk about why Duke has had better seasons lately.
I would say that. How are you defining better seasons? Did dook have a better season than we did in 2022? Do you think they'd agree?

And how are you defining lately? We've played on the last Monday night 3 times out of the last 8 tourneys. dook? :: checks notes:: 0 out of the last 8

Or realistic about the state of the game with an understanding of how this paradigm shift has sent waves throughout the sport.

Cant b said enough but damn they have a controlled cult following
To be fair, no online collection of UNC fans is going to be singing the praises of the team right now beyond a small handful of people. IC, Reddit, Twitter here, etc. the sentiment is all the same.

Worth pointing out that both Justin and Joel think the problems we're having are fixable, and we're really close to being a damned good team.

I think we all (well, except maybe the dookies on here) hope that occurs.

But, until it does, the concern for the team and HD's future is justified.

If the program is going to wave the white flag and accept that it no longer belongs in the elite tier of the sport, then it needs to change its scheduling strategy accordingly. Stop playing the good programs during non-con and go the State route of beating up on a bunch of scrubs and only playing power conference teams when required like the SEC/ACC challenge.

Probably not in 2022. Other than that, I’d say there seasons, overall, compared with UNC’s have been better, of late. Bigs was claiming we should expect UNC to fall off since other teams do. I gave two examples that haven’t.

But, until it does, the concern for the team and HD's future is justified.

The chatter about HD has been prevalent from day 1, and it crops up after every single loss, much less an awful stretch like we're in now. I don't have much hope for those folks, and I'm sure they won't ever shut up.

We missed on bigs this offseason, and that's killing us. Part of that is on Coach Davis, I think, and part is on our admin unpreparedness for SEC money being funneled into basketball portal recruiting. I know people say "oh it wasn't the money," but if we had a big enough bag, we'd have gotten Theiro or Cliff. I don't pretend to know what their strategy was to replace Armando, but I hope and trust Coach Davis and everyone else took this past summer as the wake up call that it clearly was.

I think concern and some criticism towards HD are valid. But it's not his fault our guys *continually* come out flat. It's not - or should not be - his job to get his players' energy up to play a frigging D1 basketball game against a top team. 5-28 from three happens, but you just can't take it seriously when we shoot abysmally and this posse of numbnuts responds with "FIRE THE COACH!!!"

Fair enough. But then, why do you think UNC has to pay significantly more than other schools to get recruits/portal players?

Down turns happen at every program.
I gave you two programs that have not had downturns on UNC's level of late, and by late I mean a long time. Are you going to answer the question I posed to you several posts ago - What are those two programs not having significant drop-offs like UNC; What are they doing that UNC is not doing, in order to still remain a fixture at the top?

Or realistic about the state of the game with an understanding of how this paradigm shift has sent waves throughout the sport.
That still doesn't mean Carolina has been good more often than not the past 5 years. The fact is they haven't. I guess the program should just be satisfied and chalk it up to that's just the way things are now.
