Winning, of course, at the end of the day. And they're winning more than us. Have been for the past several years too. That's the point. Is it about signing OADs or winning?
Put down the kool aid.

if you remove Roy's last 2 seasons, which were pretty disastrous, HD is sitting at 70%.Past several years records:

One has to wonder about the pitch to Cliff vs the reality. Did Bama sell him on starting and 30 min a game? Was HD honestly that he would have to earn his time?I really think a focus moving forward, aside from the obvious extinguishing of the current dumpster fire, needs to be incorporating Ian and Drake more and trying to get them into the 1st round.
We've been negative-recruited for a long time for not fast-tracking 5 star guys. Hubert got a little reprieve because he wasn't Roy, but now that he's had 3 top-ten level 5-star guys (EC, Ian, Drake) who aren't exactly flourishing.
We also probably need to get comfortable with overpaying for portal talent. I don't know the ins and outs of getting that from donors, but we need to identify guys early and be aggressive in getting them. Maybe even try to take more than you think you need. How different would we look if we'd overpaid for Cliff? Or took Danny Wolf earlier?
I honestly don't have much faith in getting things flipped without a pretty big influx of $ for players. I mean, Cliff went to Alabama for similar/same $ to play 17 minutes per game. He'd have to beg to leave the court here.
Every year you're not successful makes being successful the next year even harder. That's how Indiana got to where they are. I fear we'll just have to pay up, at this point. Do those with the deepest pockets trust Hubert with their $ is another question.
Dude let it go.Your entitlement is showing.
I think the general consensus is they are no longer a blue bloodSo UCLA..
Isn’t this a given though? It's not entitlement. It's just stating fact that they have not been as good as usual the past 5 years. You're the one with your head in the sand if you think a program can be successful if they accept that.
Taking out those two seasons, you get:if you remove Roy's last 2 seasons, which were pretty disastrous, HD is sitting at 70%.
as i said earlier itt, HD is starting to lose me but lumping Roy's final 2 dumpster fire seasons into the "last several years" isn't very fair to HD.
I’d think the portal would be the place to best find them. The dogs have to be players too. College experience helps to identify both. They need dogs. The whole program, from the coaching staff down through the bottom of the roster. There are some guys I don’t doubt in that sense — RJ, Trimble… maybe some of the newer guys like Powell, Lubin, Brown are coming along in that mold. On the staff, I know HD is a warrior, but it’s so hard to tell what the disconnect is between his mentality and that translating into the team culture. Maybe the assistants need a big shakeup.
But the staff needs to identify recruits who get after it, mix it up, take pride in shutting down their man or boxing out and grabbing a board. Where has David Noel gone? Derrick Phelps. Marcus Ginyard. Danny Green. George Lynch. Theo Pinson. There are programs that seemingly have guys like that every season — Izzo, Baylor, Houston, plenty of mid-majors with guys who have chips on their shoulders… these recruits are out there, and they don’t all have 5 shiny stars next to their names in HS. Yes, to some degree you certainly need talent at a high level. But the roster makeup overall has got to be just plain tougher.
Bring in a roster full of dogs like that and I’ll live with whatever the record might be, from missing the tourney to winning a title. Because I know they’re going to leave it all out there. But what I absolutely can’t stand is soft. Guys who don’t compete for 40 minutes. And these current guys have shown stretches where we know they have that in them, and that only makes it all the more glaring and completely unacceptable when they don’t turn that on.
Everyone knows there are big challenges with post play which are also greatly affecting perimeter play. So if they get beat by sound, bigger, better teams, so be it. But if they beat themselves *over and over* due to a very apparent lack of effort, energy, mental toughness… that’s where I call bullshit. It’s that stuff, and NOT endless wins and championships, that I feel entitled to as a fan.
It’s not going back to the good ole days.Well then, that's that, I guess. We had a good run. 60 years is a long time for anyone at the top. Let's let someone else have a turn.
This is exactly why everyone loved Harrison Ingram and to a lesser extent Cormac (he was a bit dirty dookish for my taste but ymmv, still a total dog). We need that on this team, someone who brings 40 minutes of abject ferocity. They need dogs. The whole program, from the coaching staff down through the bottom of the roster. Even though some would say Bacot was soft he did bring physicality and a bit of a chippy streak. This is exactly why everyone loved Harrison Ingram and to a lesser extent Cormac (he was a bit dirty dookish for my taste but ymmv, still a total dog). I’m not giving partial credit. Bacot took more than his share of plays off.Even though some would say Bacot was soft he did bring physicality and a bit of a chippy streak.
Other than Tyler Hansbrough you’d be hard pressed to find a big fella who doesn’t.I’m not giving partial credit. Bacot took more than his share of plays off.
