United Healthcare CEO shot and killed

1. I thought it happened last night. Actors often get home at 6:00 AM but yes, theater-goers not so much.
2. It doesn't compare to Kitty Genovese. I only used that as a rhetorical question, and then added that it wasn't comparable because people could have been calling 911 from their cars and indeed it appears 911 was promptly called.
3. Even at 6:44 AM, there are usually pedestrians, even in midtown. I mean, starbucks was open, right?

It just seems to me like this guy didn't really give a fuck about being caught. Either that, or he had some inside info about how he wouldn't be.
It was very fast. 10 seconds and it was over. Very little chance of being stopped on the street when you move that efficiently.

Reminds me of the Russian assassins. Putin has used hits exactly like this one.

Or the restaurant scene in the Godfather. They tell Michael not to worry about the patrons there. They will be so shocked and scared they won’t do anything.

Some updates from local news coverage:
  • He got to the location early and went to a Starbucks a block away and then waited
  • He went to the spot and waited about 5 mins near the curb just outside the Hilton entrance on 54th as several pedestrians walked by without incident
  • The gun jammed after one of the first couple shots and he paused to clear the jam
  • After the shooting he fled to 55th and undocked a Citibike, and rode it straight up 6th into Central Park
  • They have video of him exiting the park a few minutes later on the Upper West Side (which also means they have a lot more surveillance footage after that)
  • They found a mobile phone near the scene that they suspect he dumped
So that guy’s tweet about him docking the bike at Madison/82nd seems inaccurate.

But either way, I would find it hard to believe it’s too long before they catch him.
The NYPD now has retracted the Citibank bike claim.

Hazard pay. You fuck ppl over consistently, it comes back to bite you..like those people who sleep with married people.

This guy led an organization that screwed over millions in literal life or death situations, got death threats, and walked around like it was all good. The perp should go to jail, but as someone who interned in actuarial science in undergrad...I'm surprised this man had not done the math and gotten security.

Yeah my sorrow is for the prob tens of thousand who are battling an illness and on top of that having to worry about whether or not they are going to be able to afford healthcare or that their care is not being approved by their insurance.

There should be zero profit in healthcare.....zero.

Would you feel sorrow if the CEO of a beer company was executed in the same fashion?

I got a letter in the mail yesterday from my insurerer (not UHC) informing me they denied prior approval of an expensive drug that I've been on for the past year.

I can understand the motivation at least.

No matter how much you try to bait people into "celebrating" this so you can push your strawman, it isn't happening.
I’m not talking simply about celebrating. Making excuses for this murder or simply brushing it off as “oh well, he must have been a bad dude because he worked for an insurance company” is just as bad IMO.

not sure the beer analogy (again) works in this instance.
What’s wrong with it? It can be argued that the beer company CEO may be an even scummier person than this victim was portrayed as being. Making millions off of a product that kills people without a second thought?

How can UHC meet their EBIT goals or land their intended EPS target w/o denials of service? Shareholder dividends are a simple side-effect of the publicly-traded, for profit, negotiator to medical care in America.

You can't expect some lowly CEO to know the financial impacts of these decisions. He's just there to give guidance and chum it up with C-suite.
