But Walz's position is not Trump's position or his party's position, so what does it matter?

I suspect Vance truly does hold a fairly centrist position on abortion. But he's running as the VP for a party and presidential candidate who have repeatedly chosen a more extreme course on abortion. Why is he willing to compromise his principles by helping take away rights he fundamentally believes women should have?
 
They’ve let Vance straight up skate on some things. I can’t believe anyone with any sort of integrity would say these moderators have been biased to Walz.

Wut? Yeah, Vance clearly articulated a centrist position on abortion. The only criticism anyone reasonable could have to his response is to say “yeah but he doesn’t really believe what he just said”, because what he said was dead on the money.

Schooled him on abortion? Vance didn’t say anything. “We’ve got to earn women’s trust on this issue” How you dipshit? By dropping from 6 week bans to 4 week bans? By prosecuting women for crossing state lines to engage in legal activity where it actually occurs?

I truly believe that most Republican voters have a moderate position on abortion. But most Republican elected officials are not - they are captive to the extreme religious right that pushes them to be extreme on abortion. Just look at the laws many Republican state legislatures have passed.
