Only watched about half and didn’t read through all 20+ pages, but doesn’t sound like Walz had any big “oops” moments that’ll get replayed/twisted by the Right and hurt the ticket. Is that accurate?

A tie doesn’t really hurt Harris’ campaign because the focus is/should be about how historically awful Trump is.
Nothing substantive, but Walz did misspeak and say he had befriended school shooters (meaning to say victims of school shootings). Trump’s been hitting him on that already, but it won’t resonate because anybody sane knows what he meant.

I didn’t say anything last night because the board consensus seemed to be that Vance won. That didn’t jive with my feelings while watching it, but it seems like the focus group polling is more indicative of a tie or slight Walz win.
I think those of us on the board were concerned that Vance’s silver tongue would play better with voters. Walz also missed a lot of opportunities to just crush Vance on his lies. However, it appears Walz’s Everyman persona is carrying a lot of water with voters who seem to be viewing Vance as just another slick politician pursuing power while viewing Walz as just an everyday dude who gives a shit.

The takeaways from this debate:

Vance is a skilled debater and an unabashed liar who took advantage of the debate rules allowing his bald face lies to go unchecked.

When all is said done the only memorable moment in the debate will be Vance's refusal to acknowledge that Biden won the 2020 election.

I’m wondering what Trump is feeling this morning about the debate.

By most accounts, even if Vance didn’t “win”, it was close with a much different tone. I even have a few Pubs on my FB this morning saying this is how a debate should be, and they didn’t come away disliking either candidate. I resisted the urge to respond that half of what Vance said was lies, but I didn’t since that’s a different topic/discussion.

We all know Trump can’t stand not getting all the attention, or someone other than him getting praise/credit. Even though Vance didn’t really do anything to hurt the campaign, I could still see Trump being pissed…especially since his own debate performance was an absolute trainwreck and everyone knows it.

Walz must have done ok, Megan Kelly is falling apart on twitter.
Really amusing career arc from her. She was sort of like the proto-Tucker Carlson in a high-profile role at Fox News; then clashed with Trump and others towards the end of her tenure and decided to "go moderate" at NBA; got cancelled (literally and figuratively) for comments she made about blackface; then decided to revert back to full-on culture was grievance in her lower-profile, post-network TV phase.

Like Tucker, the obvious trend is that she'll say whatever she thinks she needs to say to stay relevant.

Shapiro would have been better tonight than Walz. While J.D. may have won on style points, I don't think his performance will move too many voters (particularly with his answers on abortion and the 2020 election). This debate will be forgotten long before last month's Harris/Trump square-off.

The debate did make me wonder when the last time a man with facial hair ran for Prez or VP. Thomas Dewey in 1948?
Dewey was the last major candidate. If you expand to third party, the Constitution party ran Don Blankenship's mustache in 2020.

This cycle, Butch Ware, the Green party VP candidate, has a stylish little beard. Stephen Broden, the Constitution party VP candidate, has a nice mustache goatee. But Randall Terry, the Constitution party's candidate for president, has a magnificent hair sculpture above his neck that would give Karl Marx a run for his money.

Yeah, Vance came across as more polished and definitely won over the pundits, but the viewing public rated it a tie, which shows that they aren’t always judging these things based on who has a more masterful grasp of language.

I think Vance’s answer to the January 6th question seems to be the major moment from the evening, and he completely botched it.
