I really like a supermajority of the people here.

I know, my shenanigans can be harsh. Always understand, I have a point to be made. Save democracy, that's it!

My boorishness will make more sense in about 6 months.

I appreciate the talking, you will need to do more than that soon. We are in a conservative dictatorship now, understand why we are here and what needs to happen soon.

Your lgbtq daughter is likely terrified right now. Let her know you will burn conservatives to the fucking ground to protect her well being

No offense taken whatsoever, brother. Look, I get it, but just trust me when I say that there is nobody who is more disappointed or feels worse about my 2016 vote for Donald Trump than me. I do not begrudge you in the slightest for taking me to task for it. I fully own it and I am fully responsible for it, and I am fully disappointed in myself with each passing day as Trump degrade and destroys the country I love more and more. Trust me when I say that there is nothing I would like more than to be able to successfully convince all of my family members who support Trump to abandon that support; also trust me when I say that I have tried and tried until I am blue in the face to no avail. I’m not nearly powerful enough to overcome decades worth of right wing brainwashing. That doesn’t mean that I won’t continue to try, and it doesn’t mean that I won’t continue my own efforts to connect with more reachable people.

GFY trying to tell a man about the opinions of a daughter you've never met -- especially when his daughter is doing poorly, as he's noted specifically today on a thread. He's very upset about her well-being and you're using her as a stunt in your asswipe performance art schtick. Seriously, GFY.

I only read the posts of the content of the article, so I don't know where the convert has gone so far....

I think that's an over simplification. I agree with Trump, Rand Paul, etc that we shouldn't be borrowing money to give it terrorist countries so their kids can watch Sesame Street or fund DEI musicals, etc. However, IF we had an ounce of financial responsibility, spending money on terrorist countries for certain soft power projects might be easier to swallow.

When do we prioritize our debt/financial situation and what happens to our power in the world when our debt situation becomes unmanageable?

Change is relative. Change dependent on external factors can be critical or even life-saving. Pay attention to the chaos.

I actually think spending money so kids in countries with terrorism problems can watch Sesame Street is a pretty good use of money for the expansion of American cultural ("soft") power in theory. What makes you disagree?

I think we need a more forthright discussion of our debt/financial situation but the relative peanuts we spend (well, spent) on foreign aid should have very little place in that discussion. We all know where material spending cuts have to come from to make a dent in the budget, and it isn't foreign aid. And in any event, any conversation about addressing the debt/deficit has to include increasing revenues, which largely will have to come from tax increases for the top few percent (because (1) that's where most of the income is, and (2) the lower classes largely can't afford a tax increase). We are long overdue to return the top marginal rates to the 40-45% range, and candidly I think we need at least one more marginal tax bracket on the top end, probably two.
