šŸ˜‚ he didnā€™t even say what yall are saying he said
Hereā€™s the thing ā€” I donā€™t think he intended to say it, and I think the context proves that, and even if it werenā€™t clear, he provided clarification very quickly thereafter.

BUT however obvious that seems to me or anyone else, it is also obvious that (a) the Trump campaign and their enablers in right wing media are seizing it as a get out of jail free card opportunity and (b) the mainstream media is also treating it as a major gaffe by Biden.

Hopefully, the truth of it becomes obvious to most potential Harris voters and this fades after another news cycle. But even then damage has been done ā€” undermining the positive news cycle and just basic coverage of Kamalaā€™s closing argument at the Ellipse first and foremost, but also altering the Trump MSG news cycles and creating an opportunity for Both Sides equivocation by swing voters.

Damned frustrating unforced error.

If we want to compare what Joe said against what Hillary saidā€¦8 years has provenā€¦she wasnā€™t wrong.
It was pretty clear then that she wasnā€™t wrong, even if ā€œbasket of deplorablesā€ was an awkward and curious turn of phrase. And she intended to say what was said, just like Obama intended to say what he said about clinging to guns and religion and Romney intended to say what he said about the 47%. All those are called gaffes, but they were all intentional statements, clearly articulated, by the actual candidate.

OTOH, Joe clearly stumbled all over his words there and was apparently trying to reframe calling Puerto Ricans ā€œgarbageā€ as the actual garbage behavior, but he blew it. His was a genuine gaffe (and the second one in the last week given his ā€œlock him upā€ slip recently).

But unlike those other ā€œgaffesā€ by HRC, Mitt and Obama, Joe isnā€™t the candidate. Hopefully enough of the voting public gets the distinction and writes it off to ā€œThank God he isnā€™t running againā€. But weā€™re in a race where Harris is being held to a zero gaffe tolerance policy by the media and Trump was actually getting serious negative attention (for something he didnā€™t personally say, which somehow evaded Trumpā€™s diplomatic immunity for all the crazy shit he says every time he gets in front of a microphone), so Joe providing a distraction when Trumpā€™s team was flailing is at best terribly unhelpful at about the worst possible moment.

Yā€™all have really got to stop living and dying tweet by tweet. There is not one single vote that Trump will add because of whatever Joe Biden said, and thereā€™s not one single vote that Harris will lose because of whatever Joe Biden said.

Iā€™m sure it was a typical Biden word salad verbal gaffe, but I could not possibly care less if it wasnā€™t. He would be absolutely correct, just like Hillary Clinton was absolutely correct: Trump supporters are garbage and they are deplorables. Also, they are the OG ā€œfuck your feelings, snowflakeā€ crowd so they can absolutely miss me with all of this whining and crying about being labeled as garbage or deplorable. These dumb motherfuckers wear their support proudly for a convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, serial adulterer, foreign dictator-worshiping, U.S military-hating sack of shit who has repeatedly called America ā€œa giant garbage canā€ and half of its people ā€œthe enemy withinā€ over the last couple of days. They are garbage, they are deplorable, and they can quite literally go fuck themselves while playing in traffic.

Yā€™all have got to stop panicking about this kind of stuff or youā€™re never going to make it until next Tuesday.

Agree itā€™s a missed opportunity, Rogan would likely be fair to her and itā€™s essentially a free ad thatā€™ll reach millions
What bullshit. That arrogant SOB expects a presidential candidate to come to him in the last week of the campaign and give him the amount of time he wants. He needs to get over himself.

That's the same BS the Times tried to pull with Biden and Rogan ain't them. There's not a chance in hell that either going on the show and , more particularly, seeming to be at some ass's beck and call, would be worth it. It isn't free to take that much time out of her schedule in a critical stage like this and appeasing an audience like this is likely counterproductive with the supporters she has.

The country needs the election to be over. In the past 48 hours, the focus on what a comedian said and what the president said shows that folks have run out of things to talk about.

We just had 3 days driven by comments from the comedian and Joe letā€™em off the hook. Of course a big deal is going to be made of it.
I don't see it this way at all in terms of voter impact. This doesn't motivate maga turnout, doesn't tamper non-maga turnout, and Undecideds (mostly low info at this point) in 7 swing states certainly hear way more vile things from maga on an hourly basis OR are so low-info they won't notice this ambiguous and barely harsh comment.
