At some point it has to be up to normal Republicans to make this change. Dems cant keep trying to do it for them.
I completely agree, but “normal Republicans”- people like Liz Cheney, Adam Kizinger, etc.- aren’t in the Republican Party anymore. The GOP is about to go through some things if and when they lose this election. They can’t win elections with their supremely weirdo freak MAGA base alone, and that is pretty much all they have left. The Democratic Party is the new conservative party in our country, as I think will be evidenced when the dust clears after this election and we see just how absurdly many crossover Republican voters Harris received.

Their institutional advantage buffers the current electoral advantage. We need to win back congress to start to clear up the courts and maybe turn around gerrymandering. It's not going to be easy or fast. 2016 was pretty disastrous for us that way.
Totally agree with you, although ironically, nothing would get the GOP to scream about abolishing the electoral college more quickly than Texas turning blue this year.

If Harris wins, the Pubs best chance in ‘28 is probably Kemp or Youngkin. It won’t be Haley.
I would run Hogan to recapture the moderates. You will get the deplorables with the magic R anyway. Getting him out of the primary is the hard part.

MAGA calling their low propensity bro brethren off the couch

FTR, I think that the self-proclaimed ”moderate free-thinking conservatives” are much more to blame than liberals, but I get the gist of this thread.

I understand what’s he’s saying but don’t really agree.

From my experience you aren’t changing these people’s minds.

You could just cut them out of your life but that doesn’t change anything either.

I will not talk politics with MAGAs. I used to try. There are few things less enjoyable.

Certainly some truth in his screed, while concurrently sounding like a hot-take from someone who's garnered a large following through a lot of hot-takes. Also a lot of circular-firing-squad type behavior with a dose of "every revolution turns on itself".

I have said since the beginning that the core of the MAGA movement was all about racism, bigotry and Christian nationalism. I'm not making excuses for anyone, either. I have stopped talking to friends I have had for years over it, and family members I try to avoid if possible because of it.
