I always hear Mark Few mentioned as a Carolina Coach. He doesn't appear to have the baggage that would disqualify him to me, though I'd prefer a Carolina alum like Wes Miller. Frankly, there are very few coaches that I know of who I would find acceptable. I'm watching Tennessee and Auburn play right now...Rick Barnes would be more acceptable than Bruce Pearl. The former having only native Tar Heel birth in his favor but Pearl is a 100% NO.
Watched Self go up against Sampson in the game before that. I'd rather not have either of them either.
So really, of all that were out there when Coach Davis was hired I guess only Steven Robinson, Wes Miller, or Mark Few could work for me. Carolina very much wanted to hire an African American coach so I really did hope that Coach Robinson would get the job. I don't think Few would have left Gonzaga so when for whatever reason Robinson was the One it was down to Miller or Davis. But Davis had been on the job in Chapel Hill, something that Miller had never done...and Davis is AFAM so all things considered the position went to Hubert Davis. I think for some folks his apolitical nature and "Christianity on the Sleeve" were plusses as well.
