All of them started as HCs at smaller schools, showed they could have success in those locations, and then moved up to bigger and better programs.

None of them are outliers.

You either really have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when it comes to looking at coaches or you have decided that facts just don't matter to you in this discussion.
You’re lecturing me on bending the facts to fit the narrative?

Fact is if they don't make the tournament this year and struggle next season, Hubert is probably going to be gone. Basketball programs like UNC are not going to be patient after missing the tournament twice in three years and not showing significant improvement the next season.
Nobody is disputing that if he has a shitty year next year that he's in trouble and maybe gone. The point is that you haven't seen the end of this year and don't have much clue who will be on the team next year and you still just won't STFU about our disastrous coaching situation.

Anybody can see that we failed in getting a suitable big man. Anybody can see that we have shooting woes. I have no idea and neither do you why people we know are good shooters aren't. That doesn't seem to be a coaching issue to me. That is the only one we can change of those we can change . We also need to get our defensive intensity back. They hit a lot of shots you wouldn't expect but our defense was poor.

I still think it's important that Hubert was a broadcaster and a pro player as well as not "just" a UNC coach and that he had experience as an assistant here. Not only that, people like him. I'm pretty sure from Trimble's comments, his relationship with Davis was a large part of changing his mind. From a strictly pragmatic POV, if we hope to get former players more involved in NIL, it seems a little more likely for them to get behind Hubert than an outsider. Now, I don't know the players and, for all I know, they may not like Hubert.

Basically, I'm in the school that is the team finishes this year well, and to me that is not so much just record or result, we get the players to remedy the size issue and do well next year, Davis could end up being a n excellent long term coach. At this point, I think that's a more reasonable bet than starting with a clean slate. You'd be looking at what I'd assume be a brand new coaching staff and possibly roster.

You don't think shot selection is a coaching issue?

Cade Tyson shot approx 45% from 3 last year. You could eat a sandwich in the amount of time it take him to get his shot off. You don't think that is a coaching issue?

Hubert might be a good coach at another school. Not at UNC. His comments yesterday show he is out of touch with today's players. He is to Tar Heel and everything that that means to you and me. He talks about how much UNC has meant in his life and he expects kids today to feel the same way. They don't. And they won't. Hubert can't get passed that to relate to them on what's important to them. They don't care about the quality of the education or the name on the front of the jersey, or the history of UNC bball, or the traditions of UNC bball. They care about nil and getting to the nba as quickly as possible. You don't have to like it, but you should accept it. We need a coach and staff that is dialed in with what kids who expect to be at UNC 1 or 2 years cares about and hubert has shown he can do that.

No, I’m saying you either don’t understand the facts in any depth or you straight up ignore them.

Bending the facts would be a step up for you because it would indicate you’ve engaged with them and comprehended them at some level.

You’ve made it clear that your support of Hubert is based in hopes, dreams, & his personality and nothing more.

We'll see. And part of the problem is the offense he runs really isn't any kind of offensive scheme at all and doesn't work with the players he has.

All impressive feats, for sure. I do wonder, however, how inflated those percentages are....what's HD's record against quad 1 opponents? What about Quad 2? And, quads 3 - 4?

I get it. To you, a good coach is defined by their character, commitment, and investment. To me, and others, a good coach is defined by their product on the floor, getting their players better, etc., first, and their personality traits later down the line. I guess that is why talking about basketball is challenging for me and you - we have very different definitions of a good coach.
Last season, Carolina was 10-4 in Quad 1. Do you think Coach Davis knew how to coach and was a good coach last season, but this season he doesn't and isn't?

And some impressive stretches of basketball.

You can watch the whole thing or just start at the 5:30 mark.

Thanks for posting. The disconnect is this isn't just about 1 down year. He doesn't sit them on the bench or hold accountable as roy did. His decisions often lead to losses. He can't get the players to play hard consistently. His players don't show a grasp of shot selection. And, they are talking about winning 10 of the next 12. So where will these guys be if we lose 10 of the next 12?

He was not without issues last year either. We all remember the switching 1-5 on everything, and how poor their defense was. It took him too long to change it up, imo, as it was obviously not working. After finally stopping the switching, their defense improved overnight, and drastically. There was a lot of times of stagnant offense, no one moving off-ball. A lot of 1-1 and two-man game, with the others standing on the 3-pt watching. These issues were covered up a lot by players making tough shots. There were a lot of times in which they were not put into position to get good shots, they had to take bad shots - they just made them more often than they are making the bad shots this year. It's not that he's forgotten how to coach like he was coaching last year, he's doing a lot of the same stuff. It's that this year it's being exposed more than it was last year, because the bad shots aren't falling as much as they did last year.

To address TPins, the difference is, when UNC was running freelance under Coach Williams they were moving and setting screens for each, getting good looks. They weren't standing around watching the player with the ball try to create their own shot. How many times do you recall Coach Williams yell "move?" They also pushed it, a lot, running break and secondary break. As mentioned above, the teams under HD are much more stagnant on offense. There's a lot of standing around, watching someone try to create their own shot. And two-man offense - high screens.

Exactly what I have been saying for the past four years.

Ken Pom had UNC’s defense as 8th best in the country last season.
