This is a chance for Democrats to become the party of individual freedom. "The government should leave you alone to be who you want to be" - where the GOP wants the government to control who you can be. There is a massive opportunity to go small government in civil liberties WITH government support for social programs. That's the path forward IMO
Makes a ton of sense unless be who you want to be morphs into the stupid garbage we see often take up all the oxygen in the room. I’m convinced the ad on surgeries for prisoners and men playing girls sports won Trump the election .

Reason for optimism regarding the midterms: low propensity voters don’t vote in midterms. Dems can have a good 2026, especially in the House, if they have the right message.
It is definitely important to have the right message, but it will also depend on being able to demonstrate that Republican policy isn’t working. If the public perceived that the Trump economy is successful I doubt it will much matter what the Dem message is. Republicans lose the electorate when the electorate sees the failure of Republican policy (see 1992, 2008). If the public believes Republican policy is working, nothing will matter.

That's been happening since JFK. Started slow but has grown greatly. It's the social conservatives who think they have the right to interfere in personal beliefs. That's everything from abortion to drinking laws to gambling and really any of the so called victimless crimes. WTF are those, anyway?
But we dont message that well AT ALL. People think dems are the party of big government. We arent. Not anymore

Some. Grocery prices and rent prices hurt more.

Dems should focus on rent and cutting out investment ownership of properties. GOP is NOT going to go after them...that's why HY is a big GOPer. They are all about real estate conglomeration. It's a way to easily win with lower and middle class folks.

Democrats have policies that are for the people turning against them. The issue is folks see the brats on college campuses that take over building and then demand they are provided food, and all the other madness and people just cringe and want no part of it. Democrats have the inability to just say these people are nuts because they worry about every 0.5% of people.

This is where I always end up because it is true. Then eventually I just get mad on how that messaging works out and similarly how the GOP just makes shit up about those policies

How can that not be glaringly open and obvious? Every relaxation of drug regulations, every rollback on exclusions on voting, sexual orientation and everything else came from the Dems. Everything that limits voting and enacts restrictions of personal behavior comes from the right. Do you ask if the sky is blue?

I get it. The people in this country that dont pay attention to politics dont. We arent going to win the Christian Evangelicals...eff them. Go after pocketbook folks, preach individual freedom and social safety nets and DONE

Agree on stop talking about raising taxes on rich folks. just do it. only talk about lowering taxes when you talk taxation

A Latino political commentator on CNN yesterday said (paraphrasing) that many Latino men are proud capitalists - they want to make money and look up to those that have made money. This attracts them to Trump and puts them at odds with some of the Democratic messaging.
I heard similar coming from analysis of young men, slightly focused on young black men, saying their initial perspective of Trump was that he had "swag". He was rich, said what he wanted, got what he wanted, etc.

Unless our modern world is simply anti-incumbent then Dems need a way to "bring receipts" and a way to put those receipts into the faces of the working class.

I think evangelicals are like most of the electorate. They place more emphasis on their pocketbook than their faith. It's convenient to wrap that into one package. Which Republicans have done. We all know Trump is no Christian, he just plays one on TV. They go along with it, effectively turning a blind eye to his deplorable behavior, because they believe they will be better off financially. Democrats know that's not the case, but when you have media conglomerates like Fox News and the NY Post dominating their news cycle. As well as alternative media creating a false narrative, it becomes almost impossible to cut through the noise.

Disagree on evangelicals. I am what you would probably call an evangelical and I go to a church that is pretty evangelical but its focus is helping people and standing out in the world. It is not shaming and turning backs on people. Most conversations I have with people are tied to - we are more aligned with the Democrats because the Christians and other people of faith aren’t doing what they should be doing on supporting people with needs. If those groups did, we would be better off supporting a more hands off approach. If the Democrats were open to people that were more pro-life (not saying that they have to change high level but just understand some are pro-life) then the overwhelming majority at my church would be all democrats. Now I go to a huge church in Wake County so I understand that’s Democrats area anyway.

Christians that trust Trump trust Trump because Trump will defend them publicly. It’s not the pocketbook reason. They view it as he is deplorable in his behavior but he does what we need him to do and won’t shy away from a culture fight.

Christians vote for Trump because of their pocketbook and their hypocrisy. The end.
