I have a cabin in the mountains west of Boone — legit concerned whether the mountainside can sustain this much rain in so short a period.
It is moving so fast that it should be out of here by dinner time Friday night.Guilford County Schools (Greensboro) closed tomorrow. But middle school and high school football games tonight and tomorrow still on (for now).
That is odd.
Lake James is expected to get to 10 feet above full pond. Highest ever lake levels there, and all of that's gonna be rolling down that way too....they've been told by Duke Energy meteorolgoist that Lake Hickory is expected to crest 4' higher than any previous record.
My niece lives riverfront on the Watauga in Sugar Grove. They own down to the river but their house is across River Rd so hopefully the river won't rise that high. The house was moved across the road in the 1940's due to prior flooding at that time. Of course with this much rain on thoroughly saturated soil, they may need to worry more about the water coming off the mountain than the river rising across the road. I texted her this morning to see how they were doing and they are at the beach! Lord knows what they might go home to.I can only imagine what the Watauga is going to do Valley Cruises.
They rebuilt after the last one, for some reason.and after these 24 hours, it never will be.
Not that part of Florida. If any part of Florida’s coast is undeveloped, there’s a reason. That area is all swamp. Will definitely help with the landfall impact, but Tallahassee and southeast GA is still in for a world of hurt. And the NC mountains most of all. They rebuilt after the last one, for some reason.
Nothing makes me want to get rid of the NWS and NHS more than these nothing eventsThank goodness climate change is a hoax, or else it would be very alarming that the National Weather Service is using such foreboding language about such an unprecedented weather event for that particular region of North Carolina.
