Was at a high school football game in Burlington tonight. Some rain during the game, but nothing to really complain about. I hope everyone who lives in the NC mountains, or has family/friends there, will come thru this okay. Please remember, buildings can be replaced, people can’t. I’m praying for all of you. Good luck!

Welp, just lost contact with our cabin in Seven Devils — everything looked fine about 5 minutes ago on security camera, then internet and/or power went out.

Looks like the Blue Ridge is getting hammered from now until 11:30 or noon. The radar also looks like the CLT area is about to get walloped by the remnants of the eastern arm of the storm.

Wind picking up here a good bit last 20 minutes or so, though still not on a sustained basis.

Please bring essential items such as medications, important documents, and personal necessities. Pets are allowed at shelters and can be housed; however, space is limited.

Evacuation Precautions:
• Avoid flooded roads and areas prone to landslides during your evacuation.
• Immediately gather important documents and items needed to make yourself and your family comfortable at a shelter or other safe space.
• Stay informed by tuning into local news, radio stations, and official social media channels for updates.

“Do not delay - take action to protect your loved ones. We understand that evacuation can be challenging, but the safety of our residents is our top priority. We urge everyone in the affected areas to take this order seriously and evacuate as soon as possible. If you can’t, emergency personnel will help you.” said Avril Pinder, Buncombe County Manager.

Next Steps:
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates. We ask all residents to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and follow evacuation protocols. A media briefing is scheduled for 10 a.m.

I’ve lost power in Fairview.

Power flickered off here just now … I suspect we may be losing power soon.

Interesting that the center of circulation is about 90 miles east of where they thought it would be at this time.

At UNCA - 8 am

“Hurricane Helene has reached Western North Carolina and begun to impact campus. We anticipate a significant weather impact this morning.

Campus Updates

Our campus Emergency Operations Center has been open and actively monitoring the storm and campus impacts throughout the night.

The campus is currently without power and internet. Impacts on cellular networks have caused data instability. This means cellular and text services are failing.

At this time, water and other utilities are still intact. We will continue to monitor and update the campus community as needed.”
