What can Trump realistically do to oppress a specific group?
 
Considering that Trump's told Christian activists that he'll Executive Order non-Christians out of being able to vote, and his Veep has said that people without kids shouldn't have the right to vote, I'm either going to prepare for the second Civil War, or sell everything I own and just travel the world until I'm broke.

I've already had death threats from MAGA chuds. I'm in my mid 40's, no wife, and no kids. If this nation is stupid enough to elect a fascist when he's literally saying the fascist shit out loud, we get what we fucking deserve.

Either way, I won't be around. One way or another.

And before one person says I'm over-reacting, don't waste your breath. If there is no general strike across this nation if we have another four years of minority rule, then I have no desire to be here any longer.

If you're in the media and try to express any criticism you are going to find yourself in hot water. He'll chat with Mark Meadows about it this making it official in Scotus' eyes and you'll be silenced.

I had wondered about adding custom reactions so this helped me look into it. I will see if I can crack the nut but my first attempts failed amusingly.

It'll give me something to do while I watch the debate tomorrow night. And thank you for your kind words.

How would Trump/Meadows/SCOTUS silence someone?

BTW, this "you will be silenced by 'them'" sounds a LOT like Trumpers talking about what will happen if Democrats get into power

Why, because I don't see a method for Trump, assuming he actually wants to, to unilaterally oppress specific groups? I think it's a valid question. What can he do?

Neither of the responses (using media or silencing the media) is realistic. The majority of the US media despises Trump. There is no chance they will be silenced by anything he says. I also don't see a method for Trump to use Meadows/SCOTUS to oppress people, especially the media.

As far as what other Republicans are doing to oppress LGBTQ....other R's aren't Trump. If Trump was in office, he couldn't pass legislation in any state. He can't even enact federal legislation unless it gets to his desk from Congress.

the media's coverage of trump doesn't indicate that they despise him. he's great for their ratings.

regardless, in my original post i didn't say trump. i said political movement. he is the de-facto head of the republican party, they all bend the knee to him. the party is currently overrun by christian nationalists who want to turn our democratic republic into a christo fascist state. the last trump admin was full of these people and the next one will be even more dominated by them.

as i said, you are living in an alternate reality.

So we’re anchored to Trump. Everything is in the context of and framed around Trump. We can accept anybody who’s just a little better than Trump and we don’t need to evaluate the merits of a candidate (or a party) on a stand alone basis.

And if you feel that (arguably) the greatest nation on earth should have the greatest leadership candidates (and parties) on earth, and the current aren’t that, you’re “bosiding”?

this is some epic "who are you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes" BS. at this point, you're either willfully ignorant or you're posting in bad faith.

the right is actively engaged in doing these things, their claims that dems are doing it are lies/propaganda/projection.

only one side is furiously stripping civil liberties and forcing their religion on people and banning books and words and denying the humanity of POC and immigrants and the lgbtq community.
 
I have yet to hear any of the “both candidates are bad” people here specifically state WHY they think Kamala is bad. What exactly has caused you to reach that conclusion? I’m not aware of any fact-based argument that could support the position she’s not highly qualified to be president of the United States.

As president, Trump threatened individual journalists, groups of journalists and specific media organizations. Same for intimidation. His stance has led to more violence against journalists. Proj 25 wants to end funding for NPR and PBS. Trump repeatedly has asked to jail journalists for things like not divulging their sources (like when journos reported on the Dobbs decision leak and many others).

So: silencing them thru defunding, thru creating fears for their safety, DOJ usage (which SCOTUS will allow).
