Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I don't see attacking Iran as an expensive, drawn out war. Iran did a little more than nothing in retaliation against Israel. There's no reason to believe they would be able to put up any kind of fight against the US.
They can target our oil tankers and oil wells and refineries that we use for oil in the Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The Persian Gulf borders Iran for hundreds of miles. The price of gas can certainly go up considerably, with all that implies for our economy.

This is why I think the odds of this working out well are minuscule. I’ll be happy if it does, but this is a completely different situation than Venezuela. There’s almost no chance whoever takes over in Iran, if the current regime is toppled, will be willing to even speak with us, much less work with us.
I kind of agree with you but if it ends in a no nuke iran then it will be worth it. I mean we would be about where we are now just with iran having no nuclear program.

going on 6 years and you guys are still being tortured by everything he says because you haven't learned to speak trump. If you took his comments literally after the first bombing then you are an idiot. Did you literally believe that one big bomb wiped out all of iran's nuclear development? Do you not have some perspective? When he made that comment I took it to mean we accomplished a few things.
- Hurt their immediate capability
- Sent a message that we were serious about them not getting a bomb and weren't afraid to act
- Get them more willing to negotiate on our terms.

Lol at anyone who takes everything he says literally and gets all bent out of shape saying everything is a lie. His entire adult public life has been nothing but metaphors. "greatest economy in history", "nobody can believe it", etc. Nobody but the far left takes that crap seriously. I think he knows it and does it to troll people like you.
The way their mushy warped minds will reassemble and reconfigure to accommodate whatever the latest heap of shit is being shoveled onto them by fox and trump. And then they’ll claim it’s 3D chess, because “big brain.”

No hope for these people, and they have earned their spot in the giant shit-stain on American history that will long outlive them and their grandkids.

Yet, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Biden sat back and allowed iran to get on the verge of nuclear weapons. So, yea, as it relates to preventing the worst sponsor of terrorism the world has ever seen from acquiring a nuclear weapon and improving human rights for an entire country, peace is exactly what he is trying to achieve. No president in history has done more to improve peace in the middle east than trump. Any semblance of objectivity would show that. World consensus is that no, iran shouldn't have a nuclear weapon but nobody was willing to step up, including the pre-trump US. Time hasn't aged well for all the comments regarding the US ceding its world leadership position to russia, china, and europe. Especially in the middle east.
Complete and utter nonsense. I honestly gave you more credit than this.

I just don’t see how Iran’s nuclear program could be completely destroyed without putting an enormous number of boots on the ground. Seems to me an Iran governed by IRGC hardliners after the US and Israel took out Iran’s spiritual leader would be MORE dangerous from a nuclear perspective.

LOL, you are pathetic. So do Republicans like MTG also not know how to speak Trump? Because she seemed to take his words at face value and then felt betrayed.

And you know, a lot of what he says that might seem like trolling, turns out not to be. Like when he said "all the illegals must go" and you people thought he must have meant just criminals and then, nope. Or when he said he's going to make the economy great with tariffs. Y'all didn't think he was going to do that. Or Tish James or Comey being "criminals"? Turns out he was serious about that and has tried to lock them up. Prosecutors were resigning, and Trump brought in a nobody, broke the law by doing it, tried to indict them, it failed, then Halligan was disqualified but she continued to insist that she was the prosecutor, etc. More metaphors?

And if it's all for show, why does he call those cabinet meetings where everyone has to go around verbally fellating him? Are we supposed to know that they are kidding? What about Hegseth saying we were going to focus on lethality? They ordered a double tap, so I guess that wasn't a joke after all.

And why do we have to have a president whose words require deciphering? I mean, that is serious Mao Zedong energy there. We managed to get by as a country for a very long time with presidents who said what they mean plainly. Now the country is falling apart, and the timing is precisely when Trump took office, but you know, greatest president ever. Glad to know we should never take that seriously, that y'all are just bullshitting when you say that.

All we're doing here is likely making Iran more determined than ever to build nuclear weapons as a deterrent. Trump has a short attention span and when we inevitably stop our attacks they'll just rebuild and work even harder to get a bomb. So unless we're willing to put soldiers in the country permanently, as you said, this is not a smart move in the long run, unless the Iranian people manage to overthrow their government. And putting soldiers in Iran is almost certainly going to turn into a quagmire just as it was in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Iraq also had no ability to put up a fight against the US, we just got bogged down due to our difficult to define objective.

That said, I’m also not expecting a drawn out war because the US has amassed no ground forces in the area.

I guess I’m not up on Iran’s defense capabilities, but I don’t really see them as a threat. I see this kind of like Iraq. They can’t stand against the US military. The real problem comes in when military objectives are met. The administration is not up to the task of dealing with what remains. Regime change, nation building , puppet leadership. All disasters waiting to happen.

But I guess it’s possible I’m wrong about Iran’s military capabilities and that will be a shit show too.
Iran has more capabilities to inflict harm on our troops than Iraq did. They don’t have enough to win, or probably even come close to winning military vs military, but they can cost us quite a bit in blood and treasure before they go down. If this becomes a boots on ground invasion like Iraq, the casualty numbers will be significantly higher this go around.

The reality of it is that the sky isn't falling
Tell that to the judges who are having to hold the DOJ lawyers in contempt of court for non-compliance with their orders. In West Virginia.

Tell that to the kids who will die or get birth defects because the EPA just allowed coal companies to dump mercury into the atmosphere.

Tell that to the intelligence professionals around the globe who now distrust the US and won't share intelligence with us.

Tell that to the kids literally dying from measles. Because our government has decided that vaccines are bad.

Tell that to the small businesses going bankrupt because of tariffs.

Tell that to the hundreds or thousands of US citizens and green card holders who are being held in detention facilities that do not meet basic human rights standards. I don't mean "American rights." I mean, basic human rights deprivation like you'd see in the gulag.

Tell that to the CDC, which might never get rebuilt and our public health will suffer dramatically.

Tell that to Lisa Cook, who is being persecuted because Trump wants to ruin the economy by taking control of the Fed.

Tell that to Renee Good and Alex Presti.

Or the victims of people Trump pardoned because he grants pardons for bribes.

Yeah, you've really got to be living completely in the MAGA news media bubble or in denial of reality to believe that we're not in a really, really bad place as a nation right now.

Yeah but the reason this won’t last is because the temperature of the country on this move is ice cold.

Once these bumbling idiots acknowledge this amongst themselves, they’ll duck out as soon as they can, declaring having bigly obliterated Iran’s nuclear capability (again?) and neutralized the threat to the region and the U.S. Oh, and supposedly paving the way for a revamped Iranian government haha.

The only time these cowards do what’s right is when it aligns with their desperate attempts to stay in office. And the time is nearing and the writing is finally bold enough on the walls that these snakes can finally begin calculating their breaks from trump. At some point it’ll happen en masse, I bet. Marge Greene is just an early adopter of the movement to come.
