I hope it is not Mullen, he's been working in TV since 2021. We don't need another coach from the booth.
One of the worst aspects of hiring an unemployed coach is that guy has no staff…….happened with Bunting, Davis, and Brown.

Not saying things would have been better if any of those three had had existing staffs; but, having no staff puts the new head coach even farther behind the 8-ball.

A promoted DC/OC likely brings some position coaches with him; or, graduate assistants or whatever the non-field coaches are called.

One interesting factor to potentially keep in mind with Sumrall that he is a University of Kentucky graduate. There is a pretty decent possibility that Kentucky is open within the next year.

All coaches have egos and guys who’ve won national and SEC titles as DC/OC likely have big ones; egos that might tell them, “I’m the guy to take Kentucky/Missouri/Iowa/Michigan State/Ole Miss to the Promised Land;” especially if it’s their alma mater. Most haven’t succeeded…..Steve Spurrier did (Florida hadn’t won much before the Ol’ Ball Coach).

How much loyalty to your alma mater is required to choose Lexington over Chapel Hill? I mean, seriously.

Touché on that point, but generally speaking an SEC program like Kentucky is going to have significantly more resources that they are willing to invest in football than Carolina. Coupled with the emotional tie of UK being his alma mater, I don’t necessarily think that UNC would be viewed as a more desirable job to him than would Kentucky.

You weren't told dumbass, that is straight from MacTTP's HC thread on IC and has been for weeks. Quit acting like you're connected.

Actually, I could screen shot the texts. But I think it's gonna be Sumrall (nothing inside there, just a gut feeling) I don't need to get into a who's connected, and who isn't argument. However, I played an olympic sport at UNC, and know a lot of folks inside the athletic department. My understanding is Cunningham has been planning for several weeks, and ultimately made the decision over the weekend. No need for name calling.

Now that that's settled what happens next:
A) Team comes out fired up and beats State (win one for the Gipper!)
B) Team comes out fired up and beats State (Elated to learn Mack is gone, looking forward to next year)
C) Team comes out flat and gets smoked by State (feeling sorry for themselves and for Mack)
D) Team comes out flat and gets smoked by State (because that's just who this team is, regardless of Mack leaving)

Also, 2 other questions:

Does Mack stay to coach the Bowl game?
Or does the team even accept a bowl invite?
Definitely accept the bowl not just for the sake of extra practice, but also for the new coach to see his players first-hand.

And he coached there a few years ago, so I'm sure he knows a lot of the university personalities. High level of familiarity.

I'd really like Schumann but would be totally good with Sumrall. Some think a decision has been made and will be announced Sunday. We'll see.

i'm just happy nobody is talking about Galloway or other coaches already on the staff.
Well, some WRAL reporter claims he has a source saying some people at UNC want to promote Freddie Kitchens to HC. But I don't know how much stock you should put in that report.

He has a lot of experience. He was an NFL associate HC for one year and an NFL HC for one year.

He is our running backs and tight end coach... the only positions that excelled this year.

Give him a chance : )

I haven't heard that, but I did hear Kitchens may want to stay at UNC as TE coach if the new coach would have him because he is more than happy in Chapel Hill.
