I don't think you have to worry about Schumann leaving Georgia for UNC. He is 34 years old making over 2 million as the DC. He has a very close relationship with Kirby Smart. He will patiently wait for a HC job at a football school.
Yeah, I kind of think that is more probable in Schumann’s case, too, kind of like what Kirby did in waiting for UGA.

The counter to this is that there are not going to be a lot of P4 openings this season and likely no SEC openings. So UNC may be the best P4 job available this year. Schumann may listen if we come with a serious offer: 5-7M and a realistic NIL budget. You're only young and hot for so long.

I think we have a unique spot to hire a coach though
1. Were likely going p2 in hopefully 5 years or less. Therefore you have the ability to build yourself up and get your kinks worked out before being thrust into the fire
2. The ACC is horrific. Just by being UNC, you should be able to win 7-9 games against the schedule you will have as long as you do a decent job recruiting and coaching
3. We really aren’t a high pressure job. It took 2-3 years of true incompetence until we fire you. This isn’t Auburn where you get 1.5 years in the SEC

Eta 4. to Rams pt above, this may be the best job available this year

Totally great points, for sure! Especially point number one. I am so, so hoping that we are in the SEC by the end of this decade.

Two other names being tossed around are Barry Odom and Dan Mullen.

Mullen has been out of coaching for a few years, so we could probably get him.
Odom has a typical UNC coaching record so we could probably get him.

History says the hire will be "meet the new coach, same as the old coach"
These are 2 hires that would absolutely be terrible

Very good points and this is all the more reason for an assistant HC like Schumann to seriously consider UNC. You need at least a year or two to adjust from a coordinator's job to HC. He would have a grace period at UNC in a relatively easy league. Look at Venables. He waited for a great job like Oklahoma as his first HC job. He was shot out of a canon into the SEC and (despite the Bama win) he's living on the hot seat. Does a coach like Schumann really want on the job training at LSU or AU with their rabid fanbases and trigger happy ADs? Maybe he does since it worked for Kirby but there only so many like him.

You dont know that with all due respect. If history is any indicator they all will eventually be bad hires. I wish we would think outside the box and do something different but that's a pipe dream.

Even though I do think my preference would be for us to hire someone who is both currently coaching and has head coaching experience, I do think that the possibility of hiring the next Dan Lanning in Glen Schumann is at least a very tantalizing thought.

Regarding Schumann: it’s easy to say he will just wait it out as DC at UGA until a good P2 job opens and then jump, but that kind of move is very difficult to time in reality. How often do the very best P2 jobs actually open up? Even when they do open up, a lot can change in a year or two and he’s not guaranteed to be at the top of the wishlist.

Idk, I think our job is more attractive than people give it credit for. If fricking Dook can convince an elite SEC DC to be their HC like they did with Elko, so can UNC.

Schools where coaches who are on the hot seat this year and next year:

Wisconsin
Purdue
Auburn
Arkansas
Florida
Baylor
F$U

I think Schumann will have an opportunity to land at a football school in the next year or two should he want to leave Georgia.

I will say, with today’s announcement, we are currently 50% of the way towards making me believe we are actually committed to trying to be good in football. The other 50% will come depending upon our hire. If we actually go get a Jon Sumrall or even a Glenn Schumann, it is going to go a long way toward telling me that we are at least making every effort to provide the financial and institutional resources necessary to compete in football. Because those two are almost certainly going to have their fair share of SEC opportunities in the next year or two or three.

Hope Dave Doeren is either polishing up his résumé or polishing up his fishing poles because whether he knows it or not, his tenure at NC State just ended today with Carolina announcing a head coaching change. From this point forward, DD is on the clock. It could be a week from now or it could be a year from now, but it’s coming.

Carolina fired Carl Torbush the first time so NC State had to fire Mike O’Cain. Then Carolina fired John Bunting, so NC State had to fire Chuck Amato. Then Carolina fired Butch Davis, so NC State had to fire Tom O’Brien. You can see a pattern lol
