The two women that ran are two of the most unlikable women in American history. No one should be surprised that the candidate left of Bernie Sanders that flipped on almost every issue, to include building a border wall would not earn the trust of the American people. It’s amazing that it was as close as it is.
There are a surprising number of people, mostly men, such as yourself I presume, that have trouble liking any woman who has achieved more success than they have. I guess you’ve a lot of women to not like.

Dems are going to have to find their version of Trump, and soon. But it's just not in our identity to form that cult-like religious connection with someone like that. i don't know what the next step is.

What’s weird is that the polls clearly picked this up going into the election. We talked about it quite a lot over the last 10 days or so. But it missed the full extent of that shift and almost all of the related smaller, but key, shift in blue islands of red states and red areas of red states.
Robeson county, which is 70 percent POC, and used to be as blue as it gets, went 63 percent for Trump. Incredible.

ETA: ncfan, did not mean to quote you.

There is no one to blame. Kamala ran a flawless campaign. A different nominee would not have mattered. A different VP choice would not have mattered.

This is what our country has become and this is what our country wants to be.... In the words of the great philosopher, Pogo:

"We have met the enemy and he is us"

Joe Biden is to blame

* Trump wins 59% of white men voters nationwide; Harris wins 39%. Trump's share is down two percentage points from a 2020 exit poll.

More white men voted for Harris than Biden. Hispanic vote increased for Trump in a big way.
"Hispanic vote increased for Trump in a big way." Interestingly, it's those Hispanics who are also racist in their own way. And they're eligible to vote legally, so they voted their misogynistic "macho" way. It will be curious to see if any of those folks get caught up in the "round up" of immigrants and sent packing. Talk about voting against your own self-interest.

I think it's this AND we have to get away from identity politics. As a party we support equal rights for ALL individuals but fringe groups do not need to be the center of our party platform. I think Harris tried to steer us away from this but the PUBS are soo good at putting it front and center.
Pubs run on Identity politics.

Feel like we are in a global punish the party in power era. I don't know how long it can be sustained when the entire world is just unhappy with whatever they have.

It's how the dictators worm their way in though.

I think so too. I know a guy, Ph.D, he votes anti-incumbent on every single race. If there is no incumbent, it'll be the opposite party that previously held that position.

I agree he put us in this position by holding on too long. It's very apparent now there is nothing Harris could have done to win, this wasn't a problem with her campaign IMO.

Needed a primary, needed a consensus chosen candidate, likely doomed anyway.

I think Kamala and her campaign probably misread courting moderate Republicans. And how they would tell her they liked her but wouldn't act on it. I'd love to know just how many Republicans actually did vote for her, because if people guessed it'd be 5% I bet it was 0.05%.

And what you cite here is a microcosm of the great irony (or wake up call) of this election - PoC voting for the party and the person with a staunch base which overwhelmingly does not like them because they are PoC, or the many stereotypes surrounding PoC.

Also, pollsters and polling should now be relegated to the same dustbin as fortune cookies, Zoltar machines, and tarot card or psychic readings. At least until they figure out what went wrong.

It's probably already been mentioned, and I know ballots are still being counted, but Kamala is about 17 million votes behind Biden's final total from 2020, while Trump's total is nearly unchanged.
