Did MAGA get upset when Bane wasn’t Hispanic in the Batman movie?
Or the dozens of other times white people played characters that were originally non-white?
Nobody cares about this crap. Only some are driven to outrage because they are primed by right-wing media to think that way.

btw, Ziegler is playing Juliet on Broadway.
Ostensibly because she is supremely talented, but we all know the nefarious reason is because they wanted to cast someone who isn’t white (despite looking pretty darn white).

When is the last time anyone complained about a new movie starring a non-white person?
I don’t know but it is of no relevance here.

I will say there are many, many instances of movie characters changing races in the past, but people getting upset about it is a fairly new phenomenon.
What has changed is MAGA-types decided to start clutching their pearls about it instead of realizing they are talking about fictional characters and when the race of the character is of no significance, then the actor’s race shouldn’t matter. And it doesn’t to most people.

It is very relevant here.

I don't recall movie characters changing races. Maybe it has happened in the past, pre-DEI/pre-Woke.

The race of the character became an issue when DEI/Wokeness made it an issue.

When the race of the character doesn’t matter to the story, I don’t understand why

you can Google (if you truly cared) and find dozens of examples of characters changing races and looks from original movies to remakes. You aren’t aware of it for a reason, and it is because nobody cared about things that don’t matter until the advent of MAGA.

It's a remake. Ariel was a very white/red haired female in the original.

Again, nobody....nobody....is going to care if there is a NEW movie featuring a non-white actor/actress. Literally nobody.
no, the original little mermaid is a fairytale book by hans christian andersen. a book. she didn't originally look like anything.

the original movie was made during a time when ALL of the disney princesses were white, which is racist as fuck.

Zen - if there is a character in a film where the race of the character makes ZERO difference to the plot, can you explain in words (not eye-roll emojis) why it matters if the race or hair color or height or even sex matter if it is different for the remake?
In all seriousness, I can’t comprehend why it should matter to anyone.

Have you seen Hamilton? How do you think Hamilton was received by right-wingers?
Yes and it was probably received the same way as Little Mermaid, Snow White and other DEI/Woke actions by Disney or other companies.

so your comment "Again, nobody....nobody....is going to care if there is a NEW movie featuring a non-white actor/actress. Literally nobody" is being retracted?
