The deficits/debt didn't start with MAGA. The national debt has been growing for decades, but really took off starting around 2008 - long before Trump was even on the political scene.

Do you really believe that the average Tea Partier was smarter than the average Congressman?
During his 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump pledged to eliminate the national debt within eight years

I am beginning to think Trump threatening the tariffs and backing down might be a way for him to manipulate the market for his personal gain. Just a hunch.
It’s the age old question: Is Trump being an idiot or just his usual criminal self?

Huh. So the most economically damaging things in history are wars, global catastrophes, and Republican economic policy. That tracks.
Well, Republican (or at least Trumplican) economic policies are a global catastrophe, so there may be some redundancy in this statement.

NOTE: the nation debt to GDP ratio for the following years:
2012 93.65
2013 95.32
2014 95.45
2015 95.96
2016 97.93
2017 97.01
Looks like responsible folks were in charge doesn't it? I am glad you are concerned about the national debt. So am I. But there is no evidence, unless you have it, that Trump is not going to massively add to the GDP debt ratio. Therefore, if you have no evidence then your concern about the National Debt is just an excuse for Trump's FUNNY BUSINESS. Your concern about the National Debt is not going to be addressed by Trump. In fact, the opposite.

LOLOLOLOL at the India deal. Here's a snippet from elsewhere:

Reuters has reported that New Delhi has offered to reduce duties to zero on 60% of tariff lines in a first phase of the deal under negotiation with Washington,

So for 60% of products that India could import, they will reduce duties to zero. As for the remaining 40% of products, the tariffs would stay the same. And Trump is going to get rolled because he's so eager to hear "we're backing down" that he hasn't a clue what they are actually doing. Every world leader has figured out how to manipulate him. He's the worst negotiator in the entire world.

He's like a terrible, terrible GM of NBA team. You know, the ones that think they are popular because everyone's constantly ringing them with trade ideas, when in fact everyone just wants to fleece him.

Trump inherited a sub-$600 billion deficit when he took office in 2017.

Oh, the tariffs are back. Surprise! He's going to send letters to countries informing them of the new price structure. Turns out 90 deals in 90 days was unrealistic. Who could have figured that out? He got 0.5 deals, so I guess that's something.

How long until these tariffs also go away?

We have as much as half a deal?

I don't think your link shows what you think it shows.

Were some campsites closed temporarily? Yes. Were they all closed due to cuts? Not even close.

The first one listed is Great Smokey Mountain Park. I put in dates for early June and every campsite was available. Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee - Recreation.gov

Arches National Park has all kinds of tours available and the Fiery Furnce is giving out permits: Fiery Furnace Permits - Arches National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, according to their calendar, has events every single day between now and October when they close for the winter. Special Events and Ranger Programs - Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

I could go on, but probably don't need to.

My life experience has nothing to do with it. I'm just asking if there have been reports of any serious issues?
super really nailed it. "if i don't see/experience it, it doesn't exist" - the world according to you.

one of my best friends works for USFWS and like half of the 10 or so refuges here in ENC are completely unstaffed right now due to the DOGE bullshit.

staff from other refuges are being forced to go do essential work on those refuges or it isn't getting done at all.

these kinds of situations are rampant right now with regard to basically all parks/lands under DOI supervision.

Anyone who thinks any retailer could eat a 30% cost is a fool. As always it is never clear whether Trump has no financial sense or if he is just playing the bully to blame blame elsewhere.

Profit margins are not that high. Walmart’s gross profit margin is higher than I would have guessed (25%) but that would be a loss before even considering operating costs.

Walmart isn’t in the business of going bankrupt.

They can eat some of the cost but no way that they could eat that much. Medium term they might adjust what products they offer to avoid products that have such high tariff but short term they have to raise prices.

Come on Democrats. This is too easy. There are just so many ways to remind the public that Trump promised that we wouldn't be paying for the tariffs.

Reminiscent of his "Mexico will pay for the wall" promise.
