The market manipulation couldn’t be more blatant.
Seriously, just imagine if this had happened in May 2021:

1. Biden sells emoluments named Bidencoins to his uber wealthy supporters.
2. While serving as president of the United States, Biden hosts a massive party at his house in Delaware for the richest purchasers of his Bidencoins, many of whom are also among the most active shareholders in the US.
3. THE NEXT MORNING, Biden posts a series of tweets that send the market plummeting, which creates buying opportunities for those with massive cash holdings (i.e., the people who had been eating caviar with him the night before).

This is why I can't take people like Ramrouser seriously. We've never seen anything remotely like this. It's corruption and grift at an unlimited scale. Anyone who tries to defend it deserves to be ignored.

Just yesterday, a Trump voter mentioned to me that it looked like everything had calmed down on the tariff front. I said back, oh really? I had just come from Home Depot and bought three light fixtures, that I know a few weeks back were under $30 and I paid at least $50 for each. Made in China, don't even have to look.

But the amazing thing this morning with Trump's recent post, is that Wall Street really thought Trump was contained on Tariffs. Oopps.
Republicans and conservatives keep maintaining this delusion that they have him under control, and then he does something they didn't anticipate out of impulse or vindictiveness or sheer buffoonery. They created this Frankenstein monster and then keep realizing over and over again that they can't really control him; nobody does, except maybe Putin and the Saudis and a few other wealthy authoritarians.

He is threatening targeting tariffs on imported iPhones, right?
One product from one company? How is that legal? (not that a legality figured into Trump’s constant stream of shit.)
Wouldn’t the tariff have to apply to all imported cell phones?

Just you wait. Annnnnny moment now our board Republicans, lifelong steadfast adherents to true free market and small government conservatism that they are- and of, course, as they are all haters of hypocrisy- will be right along to join the rest of us in expressing outrage at this un-American policy proposal by the President of the United States to individually punish the most successful American company in history. Any moment now!

Tariff authority is broad, and trade law is exceedingly narrow. I do not think that they could say, "tariffs on Apple" but they could say "tariffs on smart phones with [x, y, z] properties."

I suspect, though, that Trump will be happy to tariff all cell phones. He jawbones at Apple because he doesn't speak Korean.

Does he really believe "they" are going to "send" "their" companies into the US? Really? It's hard to keep up with the bullshit.

Hey Trump, have you noticed that every single time you mention tariffs (except to lift them), markets tank? What do you think is going to happen in 9 days?

I am reminded of Xi telling young people in China to “eat dirt” (apparently meaning suck it up and accept the economy is down and even if your parents spent their life savings to send you to university, it is your duty to return to your poor rural village and be a farmer or otherwise make do).

“Crypto billionaire Justin Sun for years wouldn’t set foot in the U.S. for fear of arrest. The Chinese-born tycoon, facing scrutiny from U.S. authorities, even missed a chance to fly on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket despite paying $28 million for the opportunity.

Now, Sun isn’t just back in America. He is in suburban Washington to attend a dinner with President Trump as a VIP guest.

After weeks of industry speculation, Sun confirmed in a social-media post Tuesday that he is the largest holder of the president’s $TRUMP memecoin. His some $23-million stash catapults him into the exclusive circle of 25 investors who were invited to a private VIP reception with Trump on Thursday. Critics say the event is among the most glaring demonstrations yet of the conflicts of interest for Trump and his family as they pursue a range of business ventures.

Until Trump’s election win, the 34-year-old entrepreneur was in the sights of U.S. authorities and was persona non grata in much of the U.S. crypto industry. His company Tron, which operates a blockchain network with the same name, has been a popular channel for crypto’s criminal fraternity to move funds.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network wrote in a private 2023 report that Tron was “growing in popularity among illicit actors.” By last year, more than half of all illegal crypto activity—some $26 billion—took place on the network, according to researcher TRM Labs, which tracks crypto transactions and works with law enforcement.

… Sun faced charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission, which in 2023 accused him of fraudulently manipulating the market for Tron’s TRX token. The SEC asked a court in February to pause its lawsuit.

The Justice Department, meanwhile, had been investigating Sun for suspected financial crimes, people familiar with the case said. The U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan requested information from Sun back in 2021 and continued gathering evidence through at least 2023, some of the people said, causing him to avoid travel to the U.S. over concerns about a possible arrest warrant. That meant Sun, who is based in Hong Kong, had to skip the 2021 launch of Blue Origin’s first crewed space flight, on which he had won a spot, the people said. (At the time, Blue Origin said Sun pulled out due to scheduling conflicts.)

It couldn’t be learned whether the Justice Department investigation is still ongoing. …”

The phrase is usually translated as "eat bitterness" -- you've got the meaning more or less correct. It's a saying that goes back at least as far as The Long March, when the communists had much cause given that they traveled 6000 miles through lands where food was definitely not plentiful.
