Not really a jazz great, not even a musician, and sort of music adjacent, but Rocky Mount's Kay Kyser could have been the director for that group.

I would have picked Shuggie Otis as a bigger one. He wrote the songs, played all the instruments and produced most of his stuff.

Not really a jazz great, not even a musician, and sort of music adjacent, but Rocky Mount's Kay Kyser could have been the director for that group.

Kay Kyser was born in Rocky Mount and died in Chapel Hill. He was a great big band leader, but I'm not sure he could handle a group of post-bop youngsters

ok...so I have just pulled out a load of laundry from the dryer and folded them for the missus. Everything was black and grey with the exception of one navy blue top.

Now hang in with me ... as I was folding her laundry, I started singing a favorite song of mine from so many years ago. These guys do it better than me
