$2536 per student sounds insane.
What way insane ? high or low
Most Fed money helps locals fund up what we use to call "Special ed" This has"I think" expanded to "high risk" So in very poor counties with lots of high risk students Fed funding is a pretty big deal
Wake County schools -which is huge , but not poor , receives 141 million this year in federal funding-6% of their budget

“saw CNN say the federal government spent $4.5 trillion in 2019. Last year, it spent $6.2 trillion. How did the government expense ballon 38% in 5 years? There has to be cuts.”
Mad Max Reaction GIF
How is it bait? I didn’t realize we have had such an increase. What is it on?

high. North Carolina spends $12k a student. $15k per student is insane.

Where are you getting 15k? We were talking about 2,536 natl average

The average per pupil spend in the US (including local, state and federal) is $17k. In California, it is close to $25k

It costs a lot of money to educate kids.
Denmark is at $12k and considered the best in the world. Sweden is at $17k. I’m stunned by this but it seems like you are right. It costs a lot.

We have 68m on SS benefits now. We had 64m in 2019. That’s a 6% increase.
And multiple across the board cost of living increases plus paying for Trump's extravagance. Here's the budget number to use, btw. Cherry pick your facts much?

$7.71 trillion in 2020,

$7.71 trillion in 2020,
I said 2019 was $4.5 trillion. What number are your challenging as that seems correct.

Sure and so is the 7.71 trillion. Your implication, of course, was how much things worsened instead of pointing out that things got worse under Trump before they improved under Biden. Yes, you probably got confused that I responded to your implied argument rather that the BS you were trying to sell.

Numbers get dicey when you introduce Covid. That’s why 2019 is good. It has nothing to do with Biden-Trump.

It ballooned because there simply aren't enough people (Congress, voters, etc) who care enough to do something about spending, which is why I'm inclined to tolerate, maybe even support, what Trump and Elon are doing. Even if they're doing it for the wrong reason, and are light years from resolving the issue, at least they're doing something. Something is more than anyone else has done since Bill Clinton.

Fed + state
Thanks
In NC if you look at the "blue counties, urban counties"-some have as much or more local than State-so they must easily be in the low 20s per kid
EDIT I was overshooting
For the same school year, Chapel Hill Carrboro City Sschools received about $16,000 per pupil in funding. Approximately 44.9 percent of the funding came from the state, 46.2 percent came from local sources, and 8.93 percent came from the federal government.

A big problem with what is going on is Musk and his minions don’t know jack shit about how our government functions. These cuts have been proposed in a time frame where there is no way they could have learned about the departments they are talking about gutting. They are assuming there is massive fraud in the spending of federal funds. Attacking SS by claiming large numbers of dead people are still receiving benefits (something that is impossible) and calling it a Ponzi scheme should set off alarm bells for everyone. The cuts they are proposing for Medicaid will have disastrous effects on the millions of poor people who rely on it for healthcare. By far most people in nursing homes are there because Medicaid pays for them to be there. Drastically reducing the federal part of Medicaid funding will mean a lot of people will lose nursing home care. This will undoubtedly lead to the closure of many nursing homes. Medicare will only pay for a 90 day stay in a nursing home and that is with a qualifying event (stroke, fall, etc) where the patient receives therapy. After the 90 days is up and the patient still needs further time in the facility they have to pay their own way or, if they qualify, they can move to Medicaid which provides open ended care. If what they are planning comes to fruition, then a lot of poor people are going to suffer. Hell, probably a lot of us will so they can give tax cuts to the wealthy.
