So, do the Heels have to beat Duke or win the ACC tournament to get in the big dance? Would beating Duke be enough if they don't win the ACC tournament?
I think they have to beat Duke, either Saturday or in the ACC tournament, and any loss to them has to be close and competitive. I don’t think beating a UL or Clemson only will get them in. The committee seems to like quality q1 wins when differentiating bubble teams, and UNC doesn’t have any (UCLA is arguable at the moment) while others have a few each.

JESUCRISTO whenever I see loonardee's name I have to say "Fuck Him" and do wonder what the hell he ever did to wield such power -- and I did investigate that - found zero reason.

Does the margin of a loss on Saturday really matter as far as our tournament resume is concerned? Obviously losing by 40 would hurt our advanced metrics more than losing a close one, but I think at the end of the day either result would still mean that we have to make it to the ACCT finals to feel confident in an at-large berth.
I think it does for one reason...our NET is creeping up high enough that we're getting close to being in despite our quad issues.

We're gonna be ~11 point underdogs to dook. Even if we lose, if we can keep it under 5, we'll get a boost in the advanced metrics. If we can get our NET ranking up to 35, we'll be hard to leave out even without a victory over dook. Now, that would probably still take a victory over another Q1 team, but we have to do everything possible to make it tough for the selection committee to leave us out.

2 more wins seems like it would do it but need 1 of them to be a Q1 to feel safe.

Obviously, beating dook would be awesome and would essentially put us in the NCAAT, but what we really can’t afford is to let dook blow us out again.

There’s a clear path forward for us to make the tournament if we can keep the dook game under a 10 point loss and we reach the ACCT semifinals.

I would love to partake in these discussions if possible and speak about this like adults.

In the seven seasons they've used the quad system, no team has made the tournament with as bad a record as Carolina has vs Quad 1 teams. If Duke beats you again, I don't think you can sneak in unless you win the ACCT

And I don't agree. Teams who finish Top five in the ACC should get into the dance.

This is where I am at too.

Maybe so. I still don’t think a close loss Saturday + just 1 more theoretical Q1 win in the ACCT leaves us in a comfortable spot at all. We’d probably need a lot of results in other conference regular season finales and tournaments to break our way in that scenario.

Can Chapel Bill lend his girlfriend to the cause this weekend? Have her take Cooper out on Friday night for 5-10 blue cups.

Fortunately, I doubt he wields any power.

He likely does make nice $$$ for being FOS.

Not this ACC.

Bottom line: Heels need another Quad 1 win this season. We either have to beat dook on Saturday or beat dook, Clemson or Louisville in the Tourney. I say let's just get it over with on Saturday so we can enjoy the ACCT.

I think a win over Clem or Louisville in the ACCT will mitigate that.

There's no way to know for sure unless things play out with Carolina losing a close one to dook, then winning 2 in the ACCT before getting beat, and then seeing what happens.

I will take that scenario

I'm not saying we'd be comfortable, but I think we'd be in Dayton (barring a number of bid thieves).
