United Healthcare CEO shot and killed

"Police believe the shooter used a B&T Station Six, known in Great Britain as a Welrod pistol, according to police sources. The gun doesn't have a silencer but does have a long barrel that enables the 9 mm to fire a nearly silent shot. The gun requires manually cycling ammunition from the magazine.

The weapon is not easily attainable so investigators have been running down all recent purchases, according to police sources. NYPD detectives arrived Thursday at a gun shop in Connecticut that sold a weapon of the same type, sources said."

That’s some dumb reporting. A long barrel doesn’t do anything to reduce the report of gunfire. If anything, a longer barreled 9mm would make it more likely for the bullet to go supersonic, even when using lower pressure 147gr ammo.

According to my Google expertise, it's an integrated silencer as opposed to the silencers you see in the movies that screw on. It was developed for British special forces. It is very quiet and sounds about like a finger snap. It is supposed to be undetectable from about 15 ft away.

If correct, that company should be ramping up manufacturing immediately. They’re about to experience a surge in demand from the US.

Yeah, I looked it up after my last post and saw that it was integrally suppressed. The manual chambering of each round would eliminate the (rather loud) sound of the slide slamming back and forward again.
Given the rarity of these things and the required paperwork to get one, it would have been a very big misstep if that’s what he used. Shouldn’t be difficult at all to narrow down potential shooters.

Ah, if true, that explains a lot -- in particular, why the shots didn't attract more attention.

Would you feel sorrow if the CEO of a beer company was executed in the same fashion?
What is similar about the product of beer and the service of healthcare insurance? Do you understand the business model of collect as much premium as possible ehile delivering the least service?

Also, its not feeling sorry...but if your job is to screw ppl over, you can't be surprised when there is hate.

Looks like the wife did it here... although character issues rarely exist in a vacuum.

Assuming he got it legally.

It’s a pretty big risk to sell a suppressor off the books. A silencer, even non-integral, is technically a weapon subject to the NFA. They are serialized. Someone, somewhere was the original and legal purchaser and ATF knows who that is.
Does the NRA not realize some of us don’t want to be burdened by cumbersome ear muffs, but would like to protect our hearing?

Some updates from NY Post.
  • He checked into the hostel on Amsterdam/103rd on Sat 11/30, using a fake NJ ID
  • Surveillance of him on Wed morning leaving the area of the hostel around 5 am
  • Surveillance of him popping up to street level at the 57th St. F train station around 6:15 am
The Starbucks (where those earlier images came from) is directly adjacent to that exit in the new footage. So he walked up to street level and right into Starbucks on 56th/6th Ave around 6:15 am.

The murder happened at 6:44 am, two blocks from there.

So this guy was not lying in wait for long. He fucking knew this dude’s schedule in very sharp detail. And he was on the phone just minutes before the murder (there’s footage). Seems likely he may have had help of some kind.

Another weird thing is what he would’ve been doing between 5 am and 6:15 am, if he wasn’t near the Hilton lying in wait. That station only serves the F line and there’s no easy or reasonable way to get to that line from the hostel on 103rd Amsterdam, which is easily served by other trains which don’t connect to the F.

So where the hell did he go for that hour+. Makes no sense unless maybe he didn’t have the weapon yet and went somewhere to pick it up.

And the e-bike situation makes even less sense now, since he clearly had no bike from 6:15 - 6:45 when the murder happened. I guessed he had planted a bike there, but that likely isn’t the case. He may have jacked someone for it, but if he did, it hasn’t been reported at all.

I wouldn't be shocked if he is gone at this point. He planned this out well. The next step very well may have been catching a one-way redeye flight from LaGuardia to Amsterdam on a ticket he bought weeks ago. Did the authorities delay any flights yesterday?
I'm sure they looked at the lists

How did he know the CEO wasn't staying at the Hilton? Has he come out publicly in an interview as a Bonvoy guy? How did he know the direction and door the CEO would be headed for?

How long had the CEO been staying in Manhattan? I'm too lazy to look it up. One day? Two? More? Same hotel?

Yeah I mean at first, it was conceivable to think that he had done some obsessive homework and recon that gave him enough info to hang out around the Hilton throughout the conference until he saw him and saw his chance.

But to pop up to street level, get a coffee, make a phone call, and then go directly to the spot, wait 5 mins for him to walk by… and then kill the guy before he could enter the Hilton. That’s not just lucky timing. No way, pretty clear he had inside info.

I haven’t seen any reporting mention when the CEO arrived at his hotel.

Only that it was the Marriott directly across the street from the Hilton, on 54th between 6/7th Aves.

NYT says the shooter may have arrived in NYC on an interstate bus as many as 10 days ago. That seems like a long time to be hanging out before a hit.

I meant the gun was stolen and he bought it from a guy who could get that kind of thing. Doubt gun thief worried about selling a gun with a suppressor.
