I think you're jumping to conclusions here. it is obviously very possible that a disgruntled patient/customer (or the family member of such a person) could be someone with military training and the know-how to do this. Of course what you posit is possible too, but I tend to believe that the general public overestimates how many private "hit men" are really out there operating at any given time.

I don't think a professional hit man would shoot the guy on the street with cars driving by and surveillance cams everywhere.

Certainly I could be off in my opinion of who could be responsible. The calm and unhurried nature of the shooter, and the ignoring the witness just tells me this isn't his first rodeo.

2. He used a suppressor so they would't have heard the shots. It was at 6:45AM so I hope no one was coming home from the theater then.
3. No known motive at this point.

I’ll put it like this: while this guy, if he died for some grievance against his corporation, did not deserve to die for that… I’m probably going to have a very tough time mustering up any tears for him. Granted, very few details are known and other things may come to light that could make me care more. But by virtue of his position in a corporation of that kind, the odds are high that he was not the kind of person I’d choose to actively root for in life (or actively mourn for in death).

I’d never wish for this to happen and I hope they find whoever is responsible and that justice is carried out. I would never minimize that. But we’ve only got so much emotional energy to expend and I already have plenty of good people to mourn. I won’t at all be celebrating, but I won’t be giving much of a shit either.

So I’ll take a hard pass on any (highly ironic) egalitarian “all lives matter” type moralizing over how people should and shouldn’t feel about this.

But unless I’m missing something, he doesn’t need to have been on a Citibike… there are thousands of unaffiliated e-bikes in NYC these days. I’m sure investigators understand that fact.


**I see I misread the tweet and the police did specifically say it was a Citibike. That dock would’ve put him one block from The Met Museum.

If this guy really stopped to get a Citibike after the shooting, and then after his ride uptown even went to dock it like a good citizen, my guess is that he wasn’t concerned at all about getting caught and has taken his own life by now. Otherwise, those don’t seem to be the moves of someone actually trying to get away with this crime.

Well, the actors might be returning after their post-performance festivities, but I see your point.

It's my understanding that suppressors do not cancel the sound. They reduce it. I watched a video on youtube about this, where a guy fired weapons with and without suppressors. Maybe it was a bad video, but the point (which seemed supported) was that suppressors reduce sound but they aren't like in the movies where nobody can hear anything. Maybe you can't hear it from 100 feet away but 10 feet, sure.

I never spent much time on the streets of New York at 6:45 AM, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was enough extraneous noise to at least partly mask the shots. That could have happened.

But it's still fucking brazen to shoot a guy on the city street when cars and pedestrians can have full view.

Some are suggesting that he might have been using low velocity bullets (less power = less noise) along with the suppressor. Hence the gun jamming and him having to cycle the weapon after each shot. That said, I'd think that ANY gunshot in a cavernous area like NYC would be loud and echo.

There's no skin visible in the surveillance footage released. Very easy to blend in during the winter and when most people don't even give you a second glance if you have a surgical mask on.
 
Just think of all the men women and children who died when illnesses befell upon them and insurance was cancelled and/or claim was denied. People need be accountable for the careers they choose. Not sorry if that offends
 
It’s horrific that this happened, and the footage looks like something from a movie.

On another note, UHC once tried to deny my daughter’s knee surgery, saying it wasn’t medically necessary.

Fortunately I was able to clear it up with a single phone call in which I (rather sternly) pointed out that twelve-year-olds don’t get knee surgery when it isn’t medically necessary.
