I’m just telling you. All of non-MAGA social media and non-right wing media sources have moved far past whatever non-candidate Joe Biden said on a Zoom interview.

If you think that Biden calling Trump supporters garbage is going to have more of a net positive for Trump than the Trump campaign calling Puerto Ricans garbage is going to have a net negative in a state like Pennsylvania where there are 400,000 Puerto Ricans, we’re definitely gonna have to agree to disagree.
We can agree to disagree then - nothing bad about that! The difference, in my estimation, for why the Biden comment is still creating so many waves while the Puerto Rico comment has mostly been forgotten is because things said by the sitting POTUS just reach a much wider audience than things said by a comedian I'd never heard of who was one of the opening acts at a Trump rally.

Plus, all the Trump folks have embraced being called "deplorables" before by Hillary - so Biden's comment was perhaps a minor little jumpstart to remind some of those people what the Democrats think about them.

The thing is, i'm not sure they really take him seriously.

I think a lot of his supporters have fully bought into the idea that the government doesn't do very much that is actually worthwhile. And so I think many of them know that he's a joke, but they're ok because with Trump they're in on the joke. If the whole thing is a farce, then why not put a clown in charge. And especially a clown who hate the same folks you hate and make fun of the same folks you make fun of and, occasionally, he does something they actually like (abortion)

Trump being a troll is one of a feature to his base, not a bug.
Good points, and for a response, I'll kick this one to HeelYeah.

Yeah I mean if you polled Trump supporters on insane things like "should the department of education be abolished tomorrow" and "do you support zero income taxes" and "do you hope Elon Musk fires 80% of government employees" there would probably be majority support for all of them. Many MAGAs are deeply unserious people who do not know how most things work and do not care to learn, so they have no comprehension whatsoever of the earth-shaking, real-world consequences these sorts of things would have. They think it would be a fun little adventure for the federal government to collapse because they think it means they would get to keep more of their paycheck and not have to fill out a few forms that they find to be an inconvenience.

To paraphrase what someone said on Twitter today: rarely, if ever, has there been such a disconnect between what a campaign will do and what its supporters believe it will do.

No it’s not remotely bigger than the Puerto Rico story. In fact, Biden’s gaffe has only further illuminated the racism that took place at Trump’s MSG rally.

I know you WISH the Biden gaffe was a bigger story, but it is not. Two days later, and the only place it’s still relevant is in the diseased minds of the MAGA garbage that need something to feel aggrieved over.

Nobody else gives a shit. And your icon, Donald Trump guaranteed that by one-upping Biden less than 24 hours later by calling Democrats “scumbags.”
The place to look for the PR story is Spanish language media. I don't speak Spanish so I can't really go out there myself, but I'm positive that the story has not died down there. And the outrage there is genuine, not phony. It will move votes. How many? That's one of the mysteries. But it will move more votes than Biden's nothingburger comment.

We'll see how much "the Puerto Rico comment has mostly been forgotten" about tonight at the Las Vegas rally I suspect.

Trump being a troll is absolutely a feature to his base, not a bug. I agree with that. And in the final days of the election, it's really about rallying the base and not trying to change people's minds - so yes, he comes out in a garbage truck on the way to his rally in Wisconsin and says "How do you like my garbage truck? This truck is honor of Kamala and Joe Biden"

I mean Trump literally has already done this. Did Dems get bent out of shape when he said it first? Hell no we aren't a bunch of babies? Then he called Dems the enemy, which IS something to get pissed about.

Then he should have put Kamala Harris' name on the side, not his own name, jesus they are stupid :ROFLMAO:

It made no sense at all

This is a long Twitter thread, almost 30 tweets, but it is an absolute must read. Seriously, if you read nothing else today on Twitter, read this thread. It’s great.

"I think a troll should be President of world's most powerful country" without an ounce of regret huh?

If you are Trump, you have to worry that Jesse Watters is warning his wife not to vote for Kamala 😏

O
I know this is a big ask, but can you post them all here so those of us without twitter accounts can read it?

Thank you.

Of course! Happy to do so. Don’t judge me for being technologically inept- but what’s the best way to do that besides posting them tweet by tweet? (I’m more than happy to do that, just wanted to know if there’s a more efficient way!)

The article: Want freedom? Harris is asking us to fight the 'petty tyrant'

“…
More than 20,000 people showed up for Donald Trump’s fascist rally at Madison Square Garden, the site of the last major fascist rally in 1939. But more than 75,000 people showed up for Kamala Harris’ rally last night at the Ellipse in Washington, the starting point of Trump’s attempted paramilitary takeover of the US government in 2021.

It’s a pattern in our history. Whenever the fascists come out of the shadows, anti-fascists stand ready to face them. Heather Cox Richardson wrote that, “in 1939, as about 18,000 American Nazis rallied inside Madison Square Garden, newspapers reported that a crowd of about 100,000 anti-Nazis gathered outside to protest. It took 1,700 police officers, the largest number of officers ever before detailed for a single event, to hold them back from storming the venue.”

Trump wanted a show of force with a rally in the media capital of the world, said Jonathan V Last. But then Harris turned out nearly four times as many. “This is the kind of power Trump understands,” Last said. “And I suspect that when he saw her crowd, he lost his shit.”

I don’t want to make too much of crowd sizes, but the difference between 20,000 people and 75,000 people is probably similar to the difference between the public’s perception of the election and the reality of it, which is to say: It’s probably not as close as it seems.

It looks close, because national polling averages make it seem so, and they make it seem so, because rightwing pollsters game the polling averages by manufacturing numbers favorable to rightwing politics. …”

I’d be surprised if there isn’t already a thread unroll in the comments.
