As I've said before, it doesn't take an engineer to know there's a problem when the building's falling down.
I don't have sufficient inside knowledge to know exactly who Carolina could/would get as a replacement for Hubert, but I can certainly tell you the "building" of Carolina Basketball is having significant issues staying upright.
I can also tell you how I think Bubba should approach a potential opening, if that helps you.
He should put together a list of the absolute best coaches in CBB who meet all other minimum standards for the job (read: ethical & personal concerns). Through back channels, determine who, if any, of them would consider coming to Carolina and if there's a realistic chance of a hire from one or more of this group. If so, negotiate and hopefully bring one of them on board. However, I freely admit that there might not be anyone from this group that would take the job in the end.
If the position is still unfilled, then you go to the list of coaches who have shown that they can lead a program to consistent success commensurate to the program's historical level of play & that has at least semi-regularly gone beyond that level and, again, that meet all other minimum standards for the job (again, read: ethical and personal concerns). Through back channels reach out to the coaches at the top of this list and continue on until you're able to hire one of them. Carolina should and would be very likely able to hire from near the top of this list and would almost certainly be able to get an accomplished coach to Chapel Hill.
