I posted during the campaign that the double standard for Republicans and Democrats is real, and I continue to stand by that. But a lot of folks are in families where 2 adults work to afford a house, have reasonably new cars, be able to buy their kids news clothes, pay for childcare or minimal extracurricular activities, eat out a few times per month, and take a vacation once a year and to do so while also having some emergency savings and planning for retirement and being able to give their kids a good start in life

The thing is though, this is me, my wife and 2 kids that you're describing. Except we can't afford new cars or can't save any money for retirement whatsoever, have no money in the stock market, and I still understand that this economy isn't the fault of the current administration. We struggle monthly to get by, routinely have 2 digits in our bank account at the end of the month, but I don't blame it on anyone, its just the way it is. Corporate greed coming off a worldwide pandemic set prices high and thats where they are now.

That would have been a good retort. Trump probably had no idea what health care was provided to prisoners. Her sound bite saying it would "advance the movement" was a priceless gift to Trump's campaign however.

Please don't be offended but your post resonated with me. I'm not going to pretend to know your situation or lecture you on what you should do. I'm just going to say that the answer to a better situation doesn't lie with any potus, regardless of party, or in large part in politics. Despite the politics, there are numerous paths to a better situation and I sincerely hope you find them. I was once in a not so dissimilar situation and understand the stress it creates.

I think college tuition hurts for a lot of us because we're paying for our kids' college. Or we're watching our kids stuggle with student loans...and housing costs and lack of upward mobility and so many other economic issues.

Gen X is now between 59-44. The political landscape of our youth has moved left since we were young and, as tends to happen, it seems that a lot of us didn't move left with it.

I think we saw something with Boomers 20 years ago...there's something about being the generation that is near the end of their working careers that make people prioritize their personal economic success before retirement. Combine that with a social issues landscape that has often shifted since those voters were actually young and you have a recipe for that generation to vote for the more conservative party.

I would love to know the total number of prisoners that have received gender reassignment surgery while in prison. It’s absurd that something like this was a major component of a Presidential campaign.

I think this goes along with the theme that however much people want to blame economic anxiety, it's probably at least equal parts social/cultural anxiety. Culture can move so fast these days and it can give you whiplash trying to keep up. Just like our taste in music is mostly set in our teens and twenties, other parts of our cultural identify probably are too, and it can become disconcerting to feel like our own identity is becoming divorced from where the culture is headed.

1. Yes. Pubs won't do it, or at most they may do it with some limited exception then try to close the door behind them on the way out; but I would prefer a full repeal, both because it's the right thing for democracy and because I think it would be good politically for Dems. As you may have seen in another thread, I am in favor of Pubs getting the opportunity to put their full legislative agenda in place and don't want them to have any excuses for not doing so. Because they have no real legislative agenda, and to the extent they do it's very unpopular, and I would prefer for people to be able to see very clearly that the emperor has no clothes when it comes to Republican plans to fix anything.

Yeah, the ugly truth is that 92% of Evangelical Christians voted for Trump and they no doubt will spout platitudes about believing in fair play and charity and raising their kids to have good morals and yet they're voting for Donald Trump. I mean, how do you look a kid in the eye with a straight face and lecture them about the importance of telling the truth and being a good person when you're also a Trumper? And that especially applies to their daughters. Trump's example negates everything that most people try to teach their kids about the importance of being a good person and character. And yet here we are.

Regarding abortion, one thing I believe many of missed is that the group of people that Dobbs motivated to vote already were likely voters and already were going to vote for Harris. Motivating likely voters to vote doesn't move the needle.

Well I'm saying our projected weakness emboldened putin, as it did under obama. Obviously that is just my opinion and not expecting you to agree. Along those lines, one of my biggest fears in a harris win was china invading taiwan during her term. Again, not expecting you to agree but you at least know where I'm coming from.
